I like Calzaghe and all, but... Jones would have killed him. Mid to late round stoppage. As for why that never happened? Probably because Roy didn't like to fight outside the states the same way Calzaghe seems to only fight within his home country. Roy was the champ at the time if I remember correctly, so why go over to a country where the judges will be biased against you and risk your title if the fights goes all the way?
As for Hopkins? He most likely ducked Calzaghe... meh, never liked Hopkins all that much.Comment

However, Calzaghe would of beaten Hopkins convincingly.Comment

To put it in the simplest terms:
If Calzaghe beats Lacy he garners a lot of respect he hasn't had from American fans for a long time. Then, and ONLY then, should he move to the States and start taking in more of the bigger names. Face it. The sad truth is, if you don't have the support of American boxing fans you're nothing. You can be the greatest talent in the world in Britain for 20 years straight, but if you're not knocking people out on HBO or SHO PPV's then you most likely won't be remembered in the record books. Case in point: Hatton signing with HBO. He knows that if he doesn't come over to America then he'll never be as big as he can get.
Now... if Lacy beats Calzaghe... then Calzaghe is pretty much dead on the American front. No ifs, ands or buts about is because it will cement him as a guy who fought in his home country all his life and when he finally fought a big name American fighter he got put in his place. THAT, is how 99% of boxing fans will see if it he loses. Sad, but true.Comment
