Still, martinez rep as one of the top fighters in the world comes from fights in which he stepped up beyond the level at which sturm has been fighting, to williams and pavlik.

I also think martinez is slowing and has become overrated a touch of late, but he's still the man and one of my favorites in the game right now.
did you watch that fight??he got beat down, how did he step up?

I watched the Macklin/Sturm fight last night as well, and I had it 115 -113 in favor of Macklin.

Dude was relentless and landed a lot of clean blows...just didn't have the pop to make Felix respect him. On the other hand, Felix didn't throw enough, but when he did...he had Macklin all over the ring.

Tough fight to score...not to mention those big moments when they hit each other at the same time, lol. There were waaaay too many close rounds, but Felix was getting beat up by Macklin.

I would like to see a Martinez/Sturm fight before they both get their AARP notices. Actually, Sergio should've been chasing this fight a while ago, rather than crying about a belt that Chavez had. Meanwhile, Chavez was fighting everybody, leaving Sergio with nearly any meaningful opponents.

Hell, DiBella should've had Lee and Macklin to square off, and the winner would get Sergio, but they let Chavez take a Lee fight, and get major points for it.

Anyhow, Martinez/Sturm would more than likely be a fight that HBO picks up...only if Sturm is willing to leave his country. Last time he did that, he got robbed, so I cant really blame him. This whole "Chris John" syndrome that he has going on, aint helping him.

I don't think his competition is as bad as its made out. Most/all his opposition were ranked in the top 10 at the time but his resume could be better.

Hes fighting Geale next then gunning for Abraham so hopefully he makes a late run. Hes got the skillset to beat Abraham & that would be massive in Germany.

Lee allegedly was in the plans but they chose Macklin, then Martinez was supposed to fight chavez but theyd keep taking other fights. Martinez's problem was waiting. But Chavez hasnt een beating everyone lol. Rubio and Lee? <__<... lee is nice, rubio was a step up but thats it.

Sturm shoulda chased Sergio though imo. Nobody in their right mind wants to fight sturm in germany.

Macklin and the other Brit he fought recently (whose name escapes me) both beat him. If he can't legitimately beat some fairly mediocre contenders he's got no business with guys like Martinez, and certainly shouldn't have a belt.

The other guy was Murray & I felt Murray did well to get a draw and felt the Macklin fight could of gone either way but he faded late (if I recall correctly)

You're right on Murray, it seemed like the judges were making up for Macklin, who should have beat Sturm close. Macklin did fade, barely made it to the final bell.
