If your Hall of Fame contemporaries say you were one of the best ever then you were one of the best ever. Period.

It's like if we didn't have footage of Michael Jordan, and all we had to go by was what Magic Johnson and Larry Bird said about him. I'd take their word over some 40 second clip of him playing Horse or something like that.

I mean from what I've read he's beat some hall of famers, has a strong resume and was one of the most dominant fighters of his era. I've read his style being described as a "human windmill" so it sounds like he was an active, relentless. pressure fighter that kept coming forward.

Unfortunately I have to read about how dominant of a fighter he was since no real footage exists of him actually fighting someone.

That's the thing though, we are basing our opinions on what OTHER people are saying rather then making are own. How the hell can I say, with a straight face, Harry Greb is one of the greatest of all time, when I haven't seen him fight. We are putting too much stock in these old time boxing journalists that rate him so high when they are only human, and humans are INCREDIBLY biased.

I think Larryx and Chowwoka have some good points, even if people don't want to admit it. Personnaly, there is no way I will put Harry Greb in my top 5, not because he wasnt, but because I have never seen him fight. And I agree that the little sparring and shadowboxing don't impress me at all, any good fighters today would beat them, however it's the same in all sport, put a sprinter from the 1910's against Usain Bolt he will get destroyed, I can go on with every sports....

It's like saying : well, this guy is the greatest pianist ever. I've never heard him play, but I heard from people that heard him that he was great, so I can tell you he's the greatest. That's just plain ******. Harry Greb could have never existed and be a creation of boxing historians and people on here would say he was the greatest.

                    Old fighters are overrated imo.
