The problem is regardless of whether they're watching video of an old-timer or an active fighter 99.9% of NSB posters have absolutely no clue what the **** they're seeing.

And btw, there's plenty of video out there of old-timers, especially from the 1950s.

It's like if we didn't have footage of Michael Jordan, and all we had to go by was what Magic Johnson and Larry Bird said about him. I'd take their word over some 40 second clip of him playing Horse or something like that.
the greb walker fight was filmed, but it was filmed on the old type of film that basically rots away after 20 years, which is unfortunate, i'd really like to see the fight. its pretty obvious greb is screwing around in most of those film clips, but we can see something about him, he was fast, looks very flexible ( this usually means hard power punches ) and he moves very well. if he beat tunney and walker, some of the best of his time, i'd have to rank him high based on the fact they were the best of his day. i don't think greb should be blamed for the fact that pbf and manny were born a 100 years later and weren't available to fight when greb was in his prime

And I agree that the little sparring and shadowboxing don't impress me at all, any good fighters today would beat them, however it's the same in all sport, put a sprinter from the 1910's against Usain Bolt he will get destroyed, I can go on with every sports....

It's like saying : well, this guy is the greatest pianist ever. I've never heard him play, but I heard from people that heard him that he was great, so I can tell you he's the greatest. That's just plain ******. Harry Greb could have never existed and be a creation of boxing historians and people on here would say he was the greatest.

                Old fighters are overrated imo.
No they really don't. Even if there's no fight film of Greb there is lots of footage of fighters he beat like Tunney, Walker, Gibbons, Loughran, Brennan and we can see how modern and quality they are. Factor in his resume and the countless contemporaries and ATG fighters who all say how phenomenal he was and anyone who thinks otherwise might as well try and convince people that the earth is flat while they're at it. They're idiots.

The greatest fighter to ever put on a pair of boxing gloves is this man. Deal with it.

Harry Greb wasn't even a heavyweight yet he gave Jack Dempsey a hard time. This is coming from Jack's own mouth.

He was also the only man to ever beat Gene Tunney. We do have video of Tunney and from it you can tell that he would fit right into the modern era and not be out of place, he moves well and shoots combinations very much like Muhammad Ali. Hell even LarryX says that he respects Tunney.

So what other conclusion can you draw from this other than that Greb must have been damn good?
