It amazes me how people run in here and rate people they HAVE NEVER SEEN FIGHT..the footage we have show a horrible fighter, guy looks str8 garbageHard to say that. U can't rank fighters based on h2h. Either way, grab is considered one of the best all time. There is no footage of him tho and it seems he was quite the dirty fighter. Lol. I don't think many writing in this thread would even appreciate his style. They can't even stand Andre WardComment

As far as his record on paper he has to rate among the greatest ever. I've never been one to make up any definitive lists but I do have an idea on who were among the very best and Greb was one of them. There's just no way to question his accomplishments, because he truly fought everybody, even in their backyard. He had absolutely no fear and was willing to face opponents 30 to 40 pounds heavier than him.
The fact that there is no footage of him fighting outside of a playful sparring session with an old man, brings about the fair criticism regarding his ability to handle himself in a head-to-head sense, if you rank boxers on that basis.
He handled himself well enough against this guy though, so I figure he had to be a fairly good fighter:
There's no film on Greb, but there's film on plenty of his opponents such as Gene Tunney, the Gibbons brothers and Mickey Walker, which does give you a clue on how good he must have been.Comment

Some say that his dirtiness is overstated.Hard to say that. U can't rank fighters based on h2h. Either way, grab is considered one of the best all time. I personally think if footage of Harry Greb is released that people will be disappointed. His resume is amazing, simply amazing. I think people are expecting a perfect fighter.
He looks incredibley crude on that sparring footage but let's be fair, it's obviously not a serious session. Infact, it's barely even contact. He's sparring a guy he knows #1 and #2 he's literally ancient in that video. People seem to put more emphasis on it.
The fact of the matter is though, his resume is incredible. He certainly has one of, if not the best resumes of all time. It's a real shame there's no footage of him.
Once upon time, people had a lot of faith that Greb footage was out there. Seems people have given up shape.Comment

Just playing Devil's Advocate here, but perhaps the footage isn't a representation of his fights?
And as hard as you may find it to believe, it happened. He beat him, and that's a fact.Comment

and the fact that im getting red k'd over my opinion is hilarious..you can not say this guy is a atg and you NEVER seen him fight, and then the footage we have of him is worse then a beginnerComment

quoted for truth sonsLarry's crusade against the deification of old timers doesn't really work because:
1. Larry is essentially dumb
2. Larry really don't know sh-t about boxing. If you read his posts, it's generally a regurgitation of stuff people have already said somewhere else, almost verbatim (obviously you've gotta factor in his atrocious spelling).
3. Larry doesn't understand the importance of the history of boxing and the context it provides to modern boxing. He watches montage videos of Floyd Mayweather executing brilliant pull-counters and can't understand why some people could rate Ray Robinson over that.
4. This is someone who idolises Floyd Mayweather and will defend him over his baby mama drama. This is a level of crazy that you can't debate rationally with.Comment
