He was told he has to put his WBO belt on the line by pacheco or whatever his name was, After Cotto agreed to the 145 CW (Without his belt on the line, He refuse to have it on the line for a catchweight fight), He was then contacted by the WBO and told he would be "Stripped" if he doesnt put his belt on the line.
Do you hate catchweights...?

No fighter is forced. That dude is tripping. Money was the overriding factor, as it is in most CWs. These diva fighters like Pac & Floyd -- and name your high profile fighter who can call the shots against the challenger -- they're going to angle it to any advantage they can get. Whether it's CW, venue, PPV proceeds (if it's a PPV)...whatever.didn't cotto say something about giving the wbo belt back if that was the case...and then they agreed to 145 lbs because originally cotto wasn't going to agree to 143 lbs..but either way he could have walked (it's just one of many belts) or he could have fought someone else, no? or was he forced to defend it against pac?
It sucks. I wish boxing had a commish like the NBA or NFL to run **** and keep this crap from happening. But it's reality.Comment

Then give the damn belt up. Who cares. Like Floyd said, belts ain't **** but dust collectors anyway. He was told he has to put his WBO belt on the line by pacheco or whatever his name was, After Cotto agreed to the 145 CW (Without his belt on the line, He refuse to have it on the line for a catchweight fight), He was then contacted by the WBO and told he would be "Stripped" if he doesnt put his belt on the line.Comment

the weight classes exist at a certain weight, and i like to see the championships fought there
however, there is nothing inherent in a catchweight that makes it something to hate
if the wieght works for either fighter then it's still a fair match.
it's when one fighter uses weight to drain another, or to gain a monetary advantage through negotiation, that it can become a problem
until chad dawson gets in the ring and is clearly drained you shouldnt be complaining about a fight at 168 FOR WHICH HE VOLUNTEERED !!
and if your agenda is pacquiao related, the catchweight on miguel cotto had nothing to do with their '09 fight. manny beat the dogsh#t out of him. weight had nothing to do with that.Comment

Dude comes correct. They could have fought at whatever weight Cotto wanted to go at that night -- wouldn't have mattered. Pac was a monster back then. Now? I can see why Manny wants the CW. Because now he appears to be shot and Cotto is still a baller (despite a lot of the hate he gets around here) and would almost assuredly give manny a run for his $$$ at 154. If not beat him.the weight classes exist at a certain weight, and i like to see the championships fought there

Cotto weighed in at 146 against Clottey...5 months later he weighed in at 145against Pac.He is not a man to make/use excuses, doesnt mean it didnt effect him tho. He had to starve himself, beyond normal, to lose that extra weight. Only one reason that catchweigtm was requested, to take something out of him/not fight him at full strength.
And yes its on miguel, as he accepted the terms to make the fight happen, that still doesnt negate the b.s. from the get go. If anything, props to him for taking on the disadvantage and giving the fans a fight they really wanted to see.
But now that manny has beaten the man easily at the disadvantage, he still cant fight the man when he is comfortable? Lolwut? Thats some fraudulent **** right there. Yes im a cotto fan, but ultimately im just calling a spade a spade.
I get that Miguel trained for a 147 pound fight against Clottey and just happened to come in at 146, as opposed to fighting in a 145 lb contracted weight, which let's not forget, he agreed to. So there's a slight difference there.
But, you mean to tell me that 1 pound was the difference between starving himself to make weight, and eating a normal diet and having a normal training regimen?
Also you say that he is not a man to make excuses, and that it doesn't mean that it didn't affect him. If he didn't use that as an excuse, how could you possibly assume if it DID or DIDN'T affect him?Comment

Yes came in drained and in shape at 146. Once you are drained and in shape, you still gotta take that/those extra pounds off somewhere. Anybody whos cut weight before knows, its those last pounds that are killer. Yes he just happened to weight 146 point something against clottey, at the same time never....never came in weighing 145.Cotto weighed in at 146 against Clottey...5 Montserrat later he weighed in at 145against Pac.[

And noo, thats not what i meant to tell you. I made a point in saying he had to starve himself extra to make 145, moreso than restricting his diet trying to make 146/7. That extra pound has got to come off somewhere.
now, lets get down to biscuits and gravy. There is only one reason why pac demanded the catchweight. One and only one.
