Help is on it's way. After this Olympic Games the scoring system will be the same as the Pro's. They will be using the 10 point must system. We can start right away or we can wait until the 1st of the year. By January 1st, everyone has to use this system. As the President of the New Jersey Association of USA Boxing I can not wait!
They changed the system back when Roy Jones Jr., was robbed in the Olympics. I do a lot of Amateur Boxing Ring Announcing and most of the time I will try to explain how the scoring system works to the crowd. I will tell them that they can land a good right hand that puts me on the canvas and you land another good left that does the same thing, But I get up and land 3 good left jabs before the end of the round. In Pro boxing you would be a head 10-7, but in Amateur boxing I would be a head 3-2. Also if I throw a punch that first hits your glove, then hits your chin and hurts you, it's not counted as it wasn't a clean punch.
What NBC should have done was to have another person on TV from AIBA that knows how the scoring system works. He or she could then explain to everyone how the system works and why the scores end up the way they do. Years ago, they had a 20 point system which worked find.
Also the head gear will be eliminated for the Open Class Boxers !Last edited by hhascup; 08-02-2012, 09:51 PM.Comment

to me, its at the point that it isnt even worth going to the olympics for boxing. u simply dont know who the hell is gonna win no matter how well u do. its the most corrupt of the olympic sports by far. AIBA is outta controlComment

I disagree. The guys on the U.S. team, and place like Ukraine, Germany, and UK that have significant pros, all got a BIG leg up on their future. The Olympics may not be a meteor to pro $ like it used to be in the States, but overall it can be. It's long term impact still matters and the kids need it even if they suffer insipid ******ity.Comment

Like the last point Henry but we'll see on the scoring. Screwing guys and politics is just part of the culture. Straight scorecards might make it worse.Help is on it's way. The only thing I am concerned about is the standing 8 count. The way the scoring system is now, the standing 8 count doesn't count no more then a point and still the coaches get upset. Now if there boxer receives a standing 8 count is it going to count as much as a knockdown, if so I can see a lot of coaches blowing up.Comment

its long term impact continues to decrease. ppl dont even care about olympic boxers anymore. even in the 90's up until the 00s the most highly touted prosepcts were always scouted in the olympics. not anymore tho. the games have simply lost its meaning. much of the boxing world has kind of come around to that point. i guess there are some that still hold on to the old system. but imo, if they arent teaching these fighters how to fight at a high level, then no1 is gonna value any thing that comes from these games. sure there are gonna be 1 or 2 good fighhters that make it out, but at the end of the day, i have no doubt that the would have done that with or without the olympics. the way i see it, is its an old, outdated, flawed system. all it prepares these kids for is how to get robbed in the pros.I disagree.
