    • 145 is not a weight division, it's a catch weight. pacs team challenged Miguel for a title at a catch weight of 145 in order to gain an unfair advantage. After the pac fight Cotto could no longer make welterweight and moved up to 154. i don't care what the ****** *******s say, draining a fighter is a ***** move and yes it gave pacroid an advantage over cotto. Why not fight him at 147? Why fight Cotto at 145 but then fight everyone else afterwards at the WW limit of 147? That's some BS.

Chad's situation is different, he is going down a weight class to challenge a champ for his belts. The champ is not asking him Togo down to a catch weight of 164 or some bs like that.

Cotto refused to fight for the title if the fight was at 145 but for some mysterious reason the fight was still made and was still for the title.

      Two totally different situations

I checked regarding Dawson. He was 187 for Hopkins and 191 for Johnson.

Cotto entered the ring at 146 pounds against Joshua Clottey.

I think these statistics gives the objective answer. Ward draining Dawson is clearly worse.

Very objective indeed. I had no idea that Cotto didn't gain any weight at all to fight Clottey. Quite frankly I need proof, have any??

Furthermore Ward did not or is not draining Dawson. It's a relatively widely known fact that Dawson called out Ward & also offered to come to 168 to fight him. All this mind you before Ward even responded. So the obvious question would be: "How is Ward draining a man that called him out & offered to do it at 168"??

              • 2lbs vs 7lbs

What a joke. Who would ever believe there are any objective posters in here? Most of them are clowns. That's why you're better off sticking with your instincts and common sense if you are new in these forums.

                  • Dawson is challenging Ward, nobody ask him to. He simply volunteered and I don't see why Ward should make a catch weight.

Pac wanted Cotto around 143lb. Cotto accepted 145lb and took the money. Years later Pac wanted another catch weight for Cotto's 154lb title.

Cash cows of the sport can make demands and get them. The fight for supremacy at 168 was accepted by the two fighters without any problems

I think people make to much of an excuse in relation to discrediting Pacquiao (and I'm a Cotto supporter). Poor fight plan lost Cotto the fight more than him being weight drained.

                      This is Cotto weight drained:

Dawson is clearly coming down much more than Cotto did, so it remains to be seen whether Dawson can make the weight ok with no problems. If not, IMO it's tough to give a legit win to Ward if he does end up winning. But at the end of the day, if the fighters agree to the weight then it's on them.
I may not fully agree on all of it but this is the best post of the thread. Green K.
