Comments Thread For: ABC to Decide on NBC’s 67-Second Round Interval Request

A request from NBC Sports to increase the time between rounds from 60 seconds to 67 seconds — allowing the network to air more commercials and increase the amount of money its boxing broadcasts can make, while also still showing highlights from previous rounds — will be decided on next week at a June 24 meeting of the Association of Boxing Commissions.

Good for exposure and I'm sure the fighters will want a few more seconds

It's well within their right to do whatever they want to their network and programs, but I'm just saying, the more mouths that decide on regulations and how the structure of boxing matches are made, there will be more room for confusion, misleading, advantage seeking, and controversy.

Right now deciding on the mechanics and structure of a boxing match before it even begins are:

        - State
        - Sanctioning bodies
        - Networks
        - Promoters/managers
        - Fighters

Too much money being tossed around, too many people trying to dictate terms.

Also, I'm sure the writer meant July, not June.

There seems to be a big push from people who want boxing to "return to its glory days" by having fights on free tv. Personally, I've gotten spoiled by premium channels and ppv giving us ad-free broadcasts.

**** Commercials. I hate having to buy HBO and Showtime in order to watch good fights and can barely stand watching ESPN FridayNite Fights because we have to watch commercials. Thank the Boxing Gods for the invention of the DVR. If the ABC gives the go ahead on this request, it just confirms that all the commissions are nothing but whores.

Well sometimes advancement or evolving needs to take place, as long as the rules are known before hand and both guys are dealing with the same thing, fair play.

It isn't that big a deal.

If this passes we will never hear the end of it how old time fighters were so much tougher because they didn't have those extra 7 seconds.

84 extra seconds of rest is a huge deal in a 48 minute fight!
