You know what's interesting? That JR is barely getting started... If he beats Mr. Martinez, I guarantee you that he will blow up like no other. So, keep hating. I know it hurts you inside.
The reported number was 22,000 - 23,000 tickets for the Chavez-Lee fight. That was the number the pro-Chavez people were touting as proof of Chavez's popularity. The real number was around 13,000 tickets sold - about 10,000 tickets less than what people were excited about. Once the real number of tickets sold was out in the open, Bob Arum blamed everything from cartels to the weather to the fact that sales were down because they weren't able to sell beer at the fight.

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, the promoter for WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., said Monday night that Andy Lee's co-manager and trainer, Emanuel Steward, is all wet in asserting that Chavez did not take a doping test Saturday night in El Paso.

Additionally, for a fun fact, the max capacity of the Sun Bowl is 52,000. If we do the math, 13,000\52,000 = .25. That means this fight, despite the 'popularity' of JCC jr, only filled in a quarter of the seats.

Now a not-so-fun fact: in 2011, the Utah Utes vs the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the Sun Bowl sold over 40,000 tickets.

Let's say that all 13,000 fans at the Chavez-Lee fight were Chavez fans and not a single Lee fan showed up to that fight. Now let's assume that the 40,000+ fans that attended the Utes-Yellow Jacket game was split down the middle. That's still 20,000+ fans on both sides. Popularity wise, wouldn't that mean:

    Utah Utes > Chavez Jr
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets > Chavez Jr

So technically the Utah Utes and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets by themselves are bigger draws then Chavez Jr. And if either of those two teams were to fight Chavez Jr, shouldn't they get the bigger split? I'm thinking 60-40, maybe 65-35 for the Jackets or the Utes.

    (wtf is an Ute?)
