what i mean is that gamboa is better than donaire, and rigo beat him twice. if you want to go that way , i would say franco beats donaire now. donaire got nothing at 122. franco boxes more than donaire, and is fighting at 126. ill go with franco. bartelemy is retired now, but didnt have chin in the pros. if a fight were made , donaire will beat him , cause bartelemi has no chin. but bartelemi boxes better than donaire, better defense, better ring generalship.anywys , rigo beat all of them.gamboa, franco , bartelemi, mares.thats my point, rigo was and is the better cuban boxer, and gamboa is a lot better than donaire.

So what you're saying is, chin is important in the pros, less so in the amateurs. Remind me, when has Rigo proven his in the pros? The one time he got hit clean (with a jab) he went down, and ran out the remaining 5 rounds.

But I disagree it's the chin only that doomed Barthelemy, he's lost UDs to "bums" (that's what you'd call em, I'm sure).

A boxer can get by without a chin as long as his power and speed are enough of a threat (and assuming he has the defensive ability to stay out of harm's way most of the time). That's the case with Rigondeaux. No so much with Barthelemy.

Roger Mayweather became a two-time champion without a chin. And it was mostly because of that right hand of his. A lot of guys weren't willing to take the chance to hurt him because they didn't want to open themselves up for it. And quite a few of those who did bring the fight to Roger, ended up on the canvas...

        • I like Donaire, he seems like a humble guy, but he is ducking Guillermo. The most common excuse is that guillermo doesn't have a fanbase, but he then fights a nobody from South Africa who didn't contribute to the attendance. The other excuse is who has Guillermo fought to earn a shot against Donaire. Well who did the South African beat to earn his shot?

No doubt you can compensate, still going in against a fast hard puncher like Donaire, you'd wanna have confidence in your chin, else it could be one dire fight. Bradley Alexander could look like a great investment next to it.

Regardless, Barthelemy was a top dog in the amateurs (beat Gamboa twice), so it's not such a reliable indicator. Look at Jhonson, Ugas, Despaigne. Just a headsup to the posters calling guys like Mathebula bums.

            • Rigo needs to retire. All he is capable of doing is having wet dreams about Donaire and cannot find a single other fighter to fight??????? Last I checked there are actually other fighters he could fight who last name does not end in Donaire....someone needs to send that memo to Rigo.

              • So why is Rigo ducking Mares??? Why is Rigo ducking Nishioka??? Why is he so afraid of those guys he can only jack off when hearing Donaire's name but he won't call out those guys???? Rigo has no life outside of Donaire?????????

Cause Donaire is the money fight there, and in theory it's easier to make. You can't blame Rigo for calling out the money guy, it's the posters that latch onto it.

Rigo is doing the right thing, fighting often and being more crowd pleasing. Hope they can line up some top 10 comp for him.

                  • Everyone nut hugging Donaire posts this "blabla bla prove yourselve, best amateur so what world champpion in 10 fights so what lmao lmfao blabla bla insert bs excuse here" It's just sad.
if you have such confidence in your fighter you should want him to fight the best out there not support the prima donna attitude boxers have nowadays and cry and say because a guy doesn't have a following i want to know what kind of following the SOUTH AFRICAN he just fought must have had besides 2 cousins at the arena . The only difference between Mathebula and Rigondeaux is that Donaire was certain he could put a whooping on Mathebula apparently not so sure on Rigo.

It's the other way around. Nishioka is ducking Rigondeaux with the same excuse. Wants Guillermo to fight a big name, but knows all the other big names are avoiding him. Look at his interview on CRHarmony's youtube channel (can't post link yet).

I can see Mares asking for the fight. I think Arum has enough confidence in Rigondeaux to put in him the ring against Abner too, and not protect him like he does others. Abner will fight anybody. But I don't think Golden Boy will risk it just yet.
