Comments Thread For: Kelly Pavlik Decisions Will Rosinksy Over Ten Rounds

I'm tellin ya'll, the reason Rosinsky didn't win tonight is because his fiancee was yelling throughout the entire fight, and it probably annoyed him to death. I know she annoyed me to death.I mean, we finally get a descent commentating crew, and I gotta listen to her yell his name umteen trillion times, and ended up having to use the MUTE button during certain times, just to shut her the hell up.
But seriously though, not a bad fight... I heard Pavlik say somewhere around the 3rd round (when they were in the corner) to Garcia that Rosinsky's punches were not hurting him at all. The only real criticism I'd give Pavlik at this time is "USE YOUR FARKING JAB, FOR THE LOVE OF DOG!!!!!!!". Dude has an insanely long reach, but he very very rarely uses his jab. Even when it looks like he's gonna throw a jab, it's really more like a slow one/two. Honest to God, Kelly could make life soooo much easier for himself if he would do some serious work on his jab and then use it, atleast 50% of his total punches in each round. I just don't get some of these long armed guys who rarely throw their jab.Comment

It seems like they are experimenting with having somebody socially connected to the fighter shouting repetitively in a ****** little window.
Bad idea.
What I wanna' see is the fight. What I wanna' hear is the commentary (whether I agree or think they're a bunch of clowns) and the thudding of the leather and the roar of the crowd as a whole in the background. I don't wanna' hear the shouts of individuals be they the gf or the mama or the little baby brother.
I can understand the marketing angle of trying to help the fighter make an emotional connection w/the fans by adding soap opera to the mix, but please keep it on either end of the fight. That way I can skip past it.
Agree with your take on the fight as well.
Rosinsky definitely came to win and not to diminish his performance but
this fight left me unconvinced that KP is ready for the upper tier of the division and in the post fight interview it sounded like Kelly is thinking similarly.
How bout' Sakio Bika as an intermediate step?Comment

Hahahaha and we have a winner!! Ding ding ding!! Glad to know I'm not the only one annoyed by this kinda' ****.

This is just my opinion but Bika is rough and tough and I'm not sure Pavlik is or will ever be ready again for a guy like Bika. Bika is too much of a wild card for Kelly, atleast right now... and Pavlik can't afford another loss like that at this stage in his career. I think if they want to keep Kelly successful, they should keep him on the path that they have him on now. Not unless he does a total overhaul on his game plan and make the jab #1 priority for his fights IMO. If he'd use the jab consistantly throughout the fight, he could be a much bigger problem for the tougher guys in the division. But as it stands now, he should stay fighting the level he has been.
Or do you have Bika on the same level as or very close to the top guys in terms of skill and craftiness? I know he's strong and tough and fights with alot of heart and has been in the ring w/some real competition but I'm thinking that KP is more likely to be outboxed than outbrawled. Just my .02
Either way it would likely be a helluva fight.
So then, if not Bika, who do you want to see Kelly fight next?Comment

I thought it was a good fight against an opponent that was hard to look good against. I think the style Garcia has him fighting in is likely a little safer but i like him better when he just beat the **** outta people. I think the thought that his power won't translate is wrong, but his power was always at the end of his reach (even lowly Jaco was at the end of a left) and he has to get back to using his jab more. The left hook is great but not at the expense of his jab. Maybe Loew was right....double the ****ing jab, Kelly.Comment

I was yelling for him to use the Dam jab more throughout the whole fight! It seems that everyone he fights now is jamming him up on the inside. If Pavlik would use the jab he could keep them at the right distance to land those thudding one-twos he loves to throw.Comment

Pavlik still has lots of power. Now, just like before, he seems to be having trouble landing it against mobile targets.
His lack of Jab is hurting him. Why he abandoned it I have no idea. That was his bread and butter. I like his new body punching but you should not add something new to your mix and then throw out something else.
I will tell you why Pavlik could be on the decline to me. During his comeback, something has been missing, and that his his willingness to just let his hands go. He seems more reactionary now to what his opponent is doing. Now could this mean he is declining? It might just be that. This also could be related to the lack of Jab and because of that he is not getting the punching opportunities he once was. If it is due to the lack of jab, it is fixable. If it is due to losing reflexes, then he will lose very soon.
His timing is off. His jab is no longer that effective. He was never a good reflex fighter. And with alcohol (that dulls your senses) and ring rust, a mobile fighter could put his career on the slide. Put him with someone slow.Comment

You could be right, but if Pav can't beat Bika (who from what I've seen is no Sweet Pea) how's he even gonna' think about fighting the next level up?
