As of a few weeks ago, according to Schafer, the ball's in Canelo's court.

I'll tell you this much, if you call fighting only one person ranked in the top 10 of the JMW class, old way past prime fighters and WW's who sit a division below earning a shot, then yes.... Canelo has done that by facing his crappy opposition.
But since we're speaking in a logical manner, Canelo has done absolutely nothing to earn a shot at either except fighting common opponents years after they lost to either man.

I'm still rolling how Canelo fought a WW for his belt and has fought more WW's than JMW's in his defense.... it's so sad it's funny and people defending him like you are even sadder

According to Steve Kim, sources at Golden Boy and Don King have told him that they haven't had any discussions on the fight. They talked about it months ago, didn't really have any real progress and abandoned it. GBP says it won't be Mayorga on Tuesday.

Could Kim be wrong? Yes, but the article also pointed out that Mayorga has stretched the truth on previous fights he was going to be in before too.

Mayorga is talking out of his ass, IMO

Martinez was already set to fight Chavez Jr. That doesn't make sense.

My money is Canelo doesn't want to fight Martinez anyway, so he puts it on Schaefer. That's where my money is at the moment.

Canelo originally wanted to fight Martinez on the 15th and GBP said no. That's why he was set to fight Ortiz.

Martinez is scheduled to fight Jr on the 15th so Martinez told Canelo to come find him on the 16th if he's serious about fighting.

This is actually the total opposite from what I read. I read Don King and Oscar were at the K9-Spinks event I believe it was and were actually discussing the Mayorga-Canelo fight.

Somebody's obviously lying here. Schaefer is giving interviews to boxingscene saying canelo is picking his opponent, but Canelo is putting it on his promoter for why he won't fight Martinez "after" Martinez's next fight? That doesn't even make sense.
