He is a "Champ" there's no age excuse here, Benitez was 17 when he beat the crap out of a Hall of Fame the great Kid Pambele, Tyson was a unified Champ by 21 just like Patterson, el terrible Morales was winning his first Blet at 21 and never look back, Barrera was 20 when he won his, do want to learn more?Originally posted by WBA Champi thought rhodes, cintron, and vasquez 2x are good wins on his resume considering
his age...Comment

I thought Lara looked very good last night and it was the most entertaining fight I've seen him in, but was kinda' disappointed that he couldn't manage a stoppage against the game but obviously waaayyy overmatched Hernandez.
Makes me wonder how much pop he actually has.
At this point I'd say he's a handful for anybody at 154.
Floyd schools him of course.
Cotto beats him.
Canelo? I'd call it 50/50.
I might be forgetting somebody, but I can't think of anyone else at 154 that is likely to beat him.Comment

Base in what do you call that fight 50-50, who has Canelo beat that make you think he will be competitive against Lara? the only 50-50 there is CottoI thought Lara looked very good last night and it was the most entertaining fight I've seen him in, but was kinda' disappointed that he couldn't manage a stoppage against the game but obviously waaayyy overmatched Hernandez.

, and if I have to bet I'll put my money on Lara, the younger and closer to his prime, and Hernandez has a beard there's no doubt about that, he got caught against Berto with a punch he never saw coming and in the first round, I could mention a lots of HOF that being caught just like that, beside Hernandez face say it all, and I'm not talking about the head butts.Comment

I think what people need to remember is, Lara is a boxer first and foremost. We're now beginning to underestimate his power, but that was never one of his defining attributes anyway. His counter-punching leads to stoppages, and while he landed many clean counter-punches on Freddy, he just wasn't going anywhere. Doesn't mean that Lara doesn't have pop, but it means that Freddy's chin was better than we thought. I will say this though, Lara could've gone more to the body if he wanted to stop him.Comment

You may or may not have a point about Hernandez. But if he's all that, why did Lara not KO P-dub like Martinez did?Base in what do you call that fight 50-50, who has Canelo beat that make you think he will be competitive against Lara? the only 50-50 there is Cotto

Re Alvarez: Neither of them has much of a resume at this point so it's pretty much subjective but 1 thing I noticed about Lara last night is it seemed to me like he lean fwd over his front foot some.
Somebody w/good timing and a nice uppercut might be able to take good advantage of that.
Sounds like Canelo to me.
However like I said, Lara looked good to me last night, hence I see it 50/50 at this point.Comment

You don't know how good his timing is because he's never faced anyone with as good a boxing skills or with the speed or LaraYou may or may not have a point about Hernandez. But if he's all that, why did Lara not KO P-dub like Martinez did?

Like I said, at this point it's subjective.
Just sayin' that's how it looks to me at this stage of their respective careers seeing as how neither man has really fought the top guys in their division.
Does it bother you that I'm not lickspittle all over Lara's nuts?Comment

Ok, maybe if they fought again like PW-Martinez, he could has KO him the second time around (Williams didn't want that second time around) and the first fight between Martinez_Williams was closer, way closer than Lara-Williams, so there you go, if canelo is the real deal why he hasn't face a real JMW or a fighter with a pulse? I'll tell why, he ain't $h1t the only reason he is there is because he is a rarity among Mexicans fighters, they have a chicano back in the 70's just like him, the only difference is that Lopez could fight and didn't duck anyone. You may or may not have a point about Hernandez. But if he's all that, why did Lara not KO P-dub like Martinez did?
