No, dumbass. He told the referee he wanted to quit. He didn't want the referee or the doctor to make a decision, he wanted to get to get out of there ASAP. Go back and read what I wrote.

Did you notice that when he told the referee that his jaw was broken, the referee wasn't like "OMG! Call an ambulance!" He asked "Are YOU stopping the fight?" If Ortiz had answered that question with a simple "No", you can be sure the referee would have had the doctor take a look at his jaw.

I wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt. Let's start a petition on BOXINGSCENE.COM to ban this barbaric sport. Can we even call it a "sport"? It's like human ****fighting. Maybe we should get PETA involved.

No. I am not a fan of his. I'm not his promoter/manager/trainer either. Those guys must be pissed (they have to tell lies and spin this though).

I see a lot of good coming out of this:

1. Lopez' career prospects are a lot brighter. He deserves it. He has the heart of a lion.

2. There will be a non-PPV bout on Sept. 15. I hate Arum and won't buy his PPVs anyway. I'll just watch Canelo on Showtime.

3. Ortiz wasn't really an appropriate opponent for a light-middleweight champion. It wasn't a bad fight by any means, but some actual contenders at 154 are now in the running.

4. The whole thing was kind of funny/entertaining. Canelo being there was fantastic.

5. Even if Ortiz lost the last 3 rounds, that one judge who had him up by 3 points would have found a way to give him a round and we would have seen a robbery.

Ya but him quitting there will probably actually be a smart move in the long run of his career. You have to understand that these fighters dont really care about the fans, they care about themselves. Maybe if he went on for the next 3 rounds his jaw might have been injured to the point of never recovering fully, or an extremely long layoff. He will do a rematch and probably win, and then get more big fights down the line.

Now, I don't like watching quitters either but from his point of view it was a smart move. This wasn't a big fight for the public and not many casual average fans will see this fight so it wont hurt his rep much.

Using yourself as an example of what you would do for 2 mil is not the same as his. He has the opportunity to make this kind of money in most of his fights now and its not like he still didnt get paid for quitting, he does.

You don't fight, and you will never know the pain a fighter goes through in that square ring no matter how many punk ass dreams you have of you winning-ever! i always have reservations for judging these kinds of situations. if he feels like he can't fight, then, he can't fight. if us fans aren't the one in the ring, taking haymakers with a broken jaw, we shouldn't feel qualified to judge. with that being said, victors got a world of talent, but what separates the great ones from the good is that fire inside of them. he's only 25, he's still got a lot of growing to do.

Victor Ortiz is tough. That's for sure. However as a boxer, his skills, maturity, sportsmanship, and mental toughness are questionable.

I cite the following reasons:
1. The Mayweather fight: He was unable to get to Floyd to land any meaningful punches in the entire fight. He was so frustrated/intimidated/unprepared, he decided to head but Floyd. He then goes on to try to kiss Floyd and apologize a gazillion times. When the referee told them to fight, he was caught trying to apologize again instead of protecting himself at all times and resuming the fight. I daresay, Ortiz won no rounds in this fight before getting KTFO. He was clearly outmatched, outclassed, and underwhelming in his biggest fight.

2. The Josesito Lopez fight: Ortiz's skills or lack thereof were clearly on display in this fight. Although he displayed toughness and grit, he did not display the skills necessary to keep up with and mange Lopez. By that I mean, Lopez seemed to walk right through his attack. Seemingly unfazed.

Furthermore, Ortiz clearly gets rattled when his opponents show some heart, are less than intimidated by his power, and match his limited boxing skills in the ring. He also showed poor ringmanship and sportsmanship when he clearly hit Lopez behind head forcing him to take a knee.

3. The Marcos Maidana fight: this was also a fight that was supposed to be the coronation of Victor Ortiz as the coronation as the WBA interim junior-welterweight champion of the world. Instead he came up against a fighter that was not intimidated by him or his supposed punching power, his reputation, and his questionable boxing skills and heart.

Remember his infamous and telling quote to the audience after this fight;"I’m not going to go out on my back. I’m not going to lay down for nobody. I’d rather just stop when I’m ahead. That way, I can speak well when I’m older. I’m young, but I don’t think I deserve to get beat up like this. I’ve got a lot of thinking to do.”

Conclusion, Ortiz is a good looking kid with limited boxing skills. He is fun to watch and almost always comes up short in the really big fights. He loses his head when his opponents stand up to him in the ring and he is forced to take the fight to another level ( the mark of a true champion).

He also lacks the ability to develop his skills to the point where he could become a better fighter than he is. In other words, he is a head case who is delusional about his greatness as a fighter.
