Why does Mayweather win a lot of fantasy fights? I'll tell you why.

Mayweather seems to win far too many fantasy fights on here, far more than his resume would suggest he was capable of winning.

So why do so many plump for Mayweather when pitted against the true greats of the sport?

    1) Mayweather has yet to lose officially as a pro, (though many had Castillo beating him in their first fight) and this give Mayweather an aura of invincibility.
But as we know a fighter such as JLC gave him hell and should have won their first encounter, but he is not an ATG, yet he caused Floyd all these problems.

    2) Perceived ability over Proven ability: As I mentioned in a thread of mine last week, Floyd has benefited from a perceived ability he has, it has not been proven because he has not proved it against truly elite fighters. Much as the same as Bute was being picked to beat Froch by many because of his perceived ability and unbeaten record and because he had looked good against lesser opponents, many people pick Floyd to win fantasy fights for much of the same reasons failing to acknowledge these true greats proven ability not just perceived as Floyd.

    3) Much as the same way, people were calling Bute intelligent, ring smart too technical, all these attributes are giving to Floyd, not that they are negative factor in a boxer, they are not but nowadays people seem to over rate them. I remember watching the build up to Spinks vs Tyson and much the same things were being said about Spinks, but people seem to over look these traits in fighters who have heart, passion, tenacity, aggression, will and just brute strength.

    4) People overlook great fighters of the past, and because they have not seen them fight or they may have lost some fights they dismiss their talents and the much superior opposition they have beat.

    5) Floyd tells people he is the greatest, sadly sometimes this is all it takes for some to believe this.

There is no comparison between Bute and Floyd. Floyd is a proven fighter with one of the best resumes of current boxers, if not the best.

Also, the Castillo theory is overstated. Floyd won the first fight close, while injured, and won the second fight clearer. Nearly every other fantasy match Floyd goes into is against a fighter with spottier performances or losses, often against lesser fighters than prime Castillo.

why do you spend so much of your time trying to convince people that Mayweather isn't as good as most people think? Everyone knows by now that you don't like him. Just let it go

Floyd has not proven his ability to his perceived ability standard.

Floyd's best win is what? Beating Cotto 8 round to 4, a fighter that had suffer two heavy defeats before.

That is Floyd's prove level, but I've seen fantasy fights where people pick Floyd to beat guys like Duran, SRL, Benitez.

Floyd has never proven he is on that level.

Because of his overwhelming skill level.

                That's why.

People tend to lean on fighters who are more skilled in fantasy fights.

                    Perceived ability,

People think Bute is much the superior boxer and operates the at a higher skill level than Froch.

But the boxer with the proven ability destroyed him.

It is all very well looking good against lesser opponents but, when you step up you can get out classed yourself.
