Comments Thread For: Pavlik To Froch: Not Impressed, I'll KO You, No Chin Bute

Pavlik has been making comments like this for a couple of years now. I remember him criticising the Super Six guy from accepting non-great money to all fight each other.
That's the thing with Froch. A lot of people are now going to say Bute isn't world class and never was. Time will tell if that's the case, but the fact is that only Froch went out of his way to fight him. Ward wasn't keen. Kessler and Pavlik turned it down. People call Froch an overachiever, but guys like him always have the potential to run up great records because they'll take those risky fights and prove themselves. Ward has proved his guts enough, but for Kessler and Pavlik they have spent 2 years doing very little while Froch just got on with it rather than making excuses.
Pavlik can criticise Bute all he wants, fact is if he'd taken the fight with him and won he'd be in a fantastic position right now, perhaps #2 at 168 and in line for some big fights. He passed it up, Froch didn't, and both got what they deserved from the situation.

These are your words, "What has Pavlik achieved in the SMW division to deserve a shot at Froch?" You did not give any other reason as to why you thought Pavlik should not fight Froch other than those words. And based on what you said I asked you a question that you never really answered. And if that reason holds for Pavlik, who isn't even fighting for a title, in theory it should be the same reason Bradley should not fight the Pacman. Because as of today Pavilk hasn't proved anything at 168 and Bradley hasn't proved anything at 147. And if I am wrong prove me wrong.
And if you haven't figured it by now my issue is that I am not a fan of division hopping for super fights. And I realize that for the most part its just part of the sport of boxing. But I would much rather a fighter move up and have to prove himself at least by fighting one or two of the divisions top ten fighters before they fight for a belt. And it has been done. Holyfield did it when he moved up to heavyweight and Adamak also did when he moved up. And there may not be many but there has to be other examples.
And honestly that is why I am not nor will I ever be a big fan of the Pacman. When he fought for the 154 belt he had not fought in the division nor had his opponent Margacheato. So you had two fighters fighting for a belt in a division when they had spent no time proving themselves there. Please explain to me how that one was justified? And how was Margacheato even in a title fight after his long suspension?
In fairness to today's fighters I know that this is nothing new. With that said I had a hard time even rooting for Sugar Ray, and I was a huge fan of his, back when he fought Donny Lalonde not for one title but for two different titles in two weight divisions in the same fight. Two divisions that he has never fought in before that day. And that was coming off a very long layoff after one of his retirements.
I know I get a little sidetracked, or should I say a lot sidetracked. But now back to Pavlik. That is why you are wrong about what I believe. I simply believe Pavlik, and I am a fan of his, should have to prove himself like anyone else before he fights for a title within a division. And I may not be living in reality but that really was the only point I was trying to make.
In closing I want to point out one other thing. I am pretty positive that this was not the first conversation that we have had. Didn't you get all over one time for calling Arthur Abraham a bum? Matter of fact it was after the King had lost to Froch. You went on and on about how wrong I was for calling any man willing to climb into the ring a bum. Wasn't that you? So, what has changed? Because I find it rather interesting that you so boldly referred to Pavlik as a "bum".Last edited by Ravens Fan; 06-01-2012, 07:15 PM.

I thought you were endorsing the idea of Pavlik fighting Froch.
As to calling Pavlik a "bum" Fair enough I retract that. But I do stand by the idea that Froch would likely view him that way, or words to that effect, at this point in their respective careers and would not entertain the idea of fighting him.

I think Froch likely beats him, but I can see Pavlik's point. AND I completely understand why he's making the point. He MIGHT be past his prime but he needs a big fight AND a big payday. Froch is hittable, and Pavlik can hit. ANd truthfully, Pavlik's style kind of makes his hard living work against him LESS not more. He was already slow and just ok defensively and not terrific with his feet. Age and or abuse is harder on quick elusive guys, think how bad Mosely looked after he slowed just a little. By all accounts, Pavlik's power is still there - which means that 95% of what he EVER had he still has.
Again, I think Froch wins but if you thought Pavlik was ever a match for him, then in my opinion, he's still a good match for him.

If he has his head screwed back on straight he's plenty dangerous. The dude punches like a truck & does have some boxing skills. Never really liked his foot work, but he makes up for in other aspects of his game.Last edited by Merciless1; 06-06-2012, 10:48 PM.
