Twice?! Holy ****! David Haye is the perfect example of someone to show that roadwork is overrated. Do you remember when he was able to go 12 rounds and threw, like, 9 punches a round?!

Proof that this is great ****.

Those old hacks like Duran, Armstrong, Robinson that went 15 rounds and fought as hard in the 15th as in the 1st shouldn't have done roadwork. They should have done just sprints and been like Haye and Khan.

Actually it does. HIIT increases BOTH aerobic and anaerobic stamina :

The best thing road work does is fat burning.
Yet he also could have lost weight and moved down two divisions and been a much greater fighter for it, with roadwork. He had too much fat. Good stamina, but too fat. No power and too small.

Everyone with great stamina is an avid devotee of roadwork, from Margarito, Williams, Pavlik to Martinez and all the old guys.

It's a proven method. All the statistical BS of modern training misses one big point: roadwork is the single greatest tool used by guys with the best stamina, over and over and over and over and over and over and over. You only need to look back 100 hundred throughout the history of boxing to see that the guys who did lots of roadwork were always the best conditioned fighters who could keep their **** together in the championship rounds.

Guys who focus on the whole plyometric, explosive anaerobic workouts largely, like Berto, Khan, Haye etc have shown to be inconsistent, lack stamina and fight too sporadically. They have also all shown signs of losing things and getting ragged as the fight where's on and exhaustion sets in. That's where roadwork comes in.

It's hard though so people prefer to do the new stuff because it's easier, shorter and less tedious. Roadwork is a long slog, boring for many, and tedious. Still the most proven method to get a boxer in the best possible championship shape.

You can certainly use HHIT training to get into shape for a fight, endurance wise and physically.

However, it's far from optimal. Yes, it's good to be able to go full speed for short spurts and boxing does require that, but boxing also heavily requires a high level of sustained stamina. You should use both. It's pointless doing just steady state as you wont have a tolerance for short burts of maximum effort and in the same way, it's pointless being able to do a lot of short bursts but not being able to stay at a steady pace for the 36 minutes.

next level of what? I agree with this guy that sprints and HIIT are great tools for conditioning, but completely throwing out conventional roadwork is a recipe for disaster. boxers need high anaerobic and aerobic thresholds. cant have one without the other in the fight game.

i cant be certain of this, but garcia is probly lovin seein this kind of stuff, if its true...

                I was thinking that.

Maybe I'm old school, but not having roadwork in your regime as a boxer is mind boggling to me.
