I'm with you guys, this shouldn't have come as a surprise at all, but it's still shocking to hear it officially announced. Tapia seemed like a permanent part of the boxing landscape, and though his life sounded like a living nightmare, it's sad to believe he's gone.
Oh, and to the idiot blabbering on about heaven and hell and the sins of suicide, shut it. This isn't the time or place.Comment

Oh my god.
I could've passed right over the headline, just an obscure piece of news is how it seems to be reported here. I suppose it is still early though, more coverage to come.
And I guess no one is surprised.
But that is horrible. 45 is so young. And he was such a great boxer, and such a charismatic personality. This is horrible news. He may have had drug addiction problems, but Tapia was a terrific champion.
Rest in Peace champion.Comment

RIP Johnny. A tortured soul who hopefully finds peace finally. As a fighter he was all heart and gave us some great fights and great performances. Boxing loses one of its entertainers, a character who will be missed.Comment

He was so emotional in the ring when he won his first title. You couldn't do nothing but like the guy. Always Johnny being Johnny he was a warrior and a character in boxing. He lived hard and fast with all those demons inside of him. RIP champ and thanks for all the great memoriesComment

Sad news. He had so many demons chasing him..... ever since he was a kid. He had such a hard go of it, and was such an honest and emotional guy, everybody was pulling fior him and hoped he'd win the toughest battle.... not to be. RIP Johnny Tapia.Comment
