While inside of the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles yesterday, the Koncrete Jungle caught up with world renowned trainer Freddie Roach. Always working with a bevy of talented pugilists, Roach has no bigger assignment on his schedule than his star fighter Manny Pacquiao’s June 9th tussle with undefeated Timothy Bradley.

I agree. Many fighters make trainers look good. Its the trainers who groom world champions from the first punch they land on a opponent who should be applauded.

honestly, who knew freddie roach before pacquiao?

Who listed him as a top 3 trainer?

He's not even doing that good now when he has the best talent to choose from.

I expect a good fight and think Bradley might be one of the most underrated champions at this time. Not saying Bradley will win, but i would be more surprised if Timmy got KOed early, as he has barerly lost a round since the Kendal Holt fight. Holt is also the reason why i will not put money on this fight. Even though Bradley easily beat Holt, he was down twice in that fight. If PacMan catches Bradley that way, not sure how Timmy will respond but thats why we watch the fights. And Diaz is spot on about Roach. Roach is a decent trainer, however is very limited in what he teaches. Look at PacMan, Khan, Linares and others and you will notice that most of those fighters are offensive wonders with lots of Flaws defensively. Lets not forget that none of Roaches fighters knows how to adjust to a Crafty Boxer. That being said, I think Diaz may be a little jealous of Freddies Fame.

          trainer

i agree... I dont underestimate every trainer, i respect all of them & what they do.. They mold fighters but still their (trainer) fame would still depend on the class of fighter they train... I dont overrate Roach, he just had that phenomenal Manny Pacquiao for now, who knows what might Roach future when Manny retires...

i think both of them made eachother famous... pac wouldnt be where he's at today without the help of roach and roach wouldnt be getting all these trainer of the year award if it werent for pac.

I feel Diaz may be right about Roach because Manny has always had the drive and intensity as a fighter. The talent was there but he just needed a lil time to catch up to his potential. The reason I think Roach had little to do with Pacquiao is because after all of this time Manny still can't adjust and handle Marquez with all the pros on his side. On top of that, Roach was setting Pac's fight up to other fighters handicaps. Roach should have had Manny fight some technical guys who display defense to get his skill set complete. Roach just taught Pac how to be offensive and use his speed to overwhelm his opponents but if he is in the ring with a fighter that knows how to nullify Pacquiao then he looks lost. Not to mention that Roach kept talking about this new and improved Manny Pacquiao before the Marquez fight but after said that he had an off training camp and a case of cramps? I honestly think that Roach plays off of his opponents weaknesses instead of focusing on how to make Pac stronger against technical boxers. He thought Marquez was done and was surprised to see the fight unfold how it did. how can a top 3, world class trainer not expect or be prepared for a fight against a guy they fought two times prior with both fights being competitive? Roach is a lil overrated.

It's funny that Bradley said this. I was just thinking this this morning. Roach IS overrated, it is Pacquiao who possesses all the skill and talent. Roach just help him realize it.
