  • Taylor - Unwilling To Be Great

This past Saturday night, Jermain Taylor was once again unable to win impressively over former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins. Taylor managed to grab a razor thin decision in a fight that mirrored their first meeting. The only difference between the first fight, and the second, was the broader lack of action in the ring.

Neither man was willing to engage, which turned the fight into a snooze-fest. The promoters built up a fiesta called "No Respect", when the event should of been called "More Respect". Both fighters appeared to be even more unwilling to make the fight - a fight.

The public threw down 50 dollars to watch a con job, two fighters that promised knockouts and aggressive behavior. What the public received was a friendly ballroom waltz. Taylor was unable to find an answer for the right hand of Hopkins, and Hopkins was unable to throw more than one punch at a time. The only difference between their two meetings, was the abundance of coin-flip rounds in the rematch. While there were a few in the first encounter, the second had more. There were several that could of easily went in either direction. The reason there were so many coin-flip rounds was because neither man was willing to step-up. [details]

how about you get in the ring with taylor, then you can watch the video of him knocking you out, and you can critisize the way he did it. But until then you wont have people that respond to your post, cause trust me, they wanna talk shyt but dont wanna get banned. I dont either, if i do, i do. But i will not just sit here and not point the truth out.

Oh please. These are the worst posts. Guess what, even if he was a boxer, it doesn't mean he can't openly criticize a horrible match with the heir to the middle weight thrown looking mediocre.

Manny, unfortunately that isn't going to happen. It seems a lot of the people on this website (and the writers) are infatuated with dirty fighters who are over-rated and over-hyped.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it seems as if people really get pissed on this site if someone doesn't agree with their's. Kinda sad.

Taylor won, more convincingly this time around, especially in the judges eyes (115-113 on all 3 cards). Live with it guys. Next someone is going to write an article about Tyson's chances at winning the heavyweight title, Tito winning at welter and Spinks winning it at cruiser. Yeesh.

agreed, but who is he to say he is unwilling to be great. Crazy me thought that greatness is measured by the chances you take. Taylor took his opportunity and ran with it. Now if he laid down for hopkins and still won then thats a different story. But he didnt. He stayed there shot for shot with hopkins, all be it boring, he did it.

That's my biggest problem with Taylor. He was spoon fed the entire division to get to the champion with a padded record with 0 names on it until Hopkins. If anybody took a chance, it was Hopkins by making one of his last fights with an up and commer instead of a bum.

but you just said his record was padded, so doesnt that make him a bum.

Besides, you find a fighter from the mid west whose record isnt blown up, thats why people with boxing knowledge express concern over fighters from there. You cant tell how good they are until they fight an actual good fighter.

Also, if his record was so padded, how did he manage to win the fight, let me guess, they spoon fed him that one too.

and another thing, there are very few fighters that arent brought up that way. Hell hopkins was one of them.

This is becoming a joke. I've just learned you can't take these articles seriously because there is no objectivity.
