actually makes calzaghe one of the biggest cherry pickers in the history of the sport.
Didn't he retire at 37? And, began with a really log amateur run. 37 seems quite reasonable to me.

you dont need to be a great athlete to play soccer. Lionel Messi is 5'9" and 140 lbs and is the best in the world.

calzaghe retiring when 168 became loaded with super six talent is equivalent to floyd retiring after beating ricky hatton when the welterweight division was the deepest and hottest division in boxing.

Calslappy saw the writing on the wall with the great challenges looming at 168 & cashed out.

Close fight, shouldn't have been close is Calzaghe was really THAT good, that's why (But obviously this is more of a testament to Hopkins regardless of his antics that night). Who the hell cares if he's white or black? ****** , irrelevant. Next please.

            Simple.

Hatton has more respect because even though he got humilated, he faced the p4p no.1 in Mayweather and Pac.

Calzaghe on the other hand never had a single superfight in his entire career.

The likes of RJJ, Hopkins, Toney etc. were fighting big money fights and making history. Calzaghe, on the other hand was facing journeyman mandatories.

RJJ and Hopkins were at the combined age of 84 or something, and couldn't get a big fight. (Especially RJJ who should have retired 5 years before).

If you're going to give credit to Joe.
Then give credit to Trevor Berbick for beating Ali.
And give credit for "5k Battery" for beating Pac.

Calzaghe was a cherry picking bum... his only good fights were Lacy and Kessler while they were still green. He's your typical euro trash and I don't consider the Klitchko's trash btw. Fight bums, pad your record, and get key names when they are well past it or too inexperienced. Hopkins won that fight by clean effective punching. I hate Hopkins and feel that he was a cherry picker also after he got schooled by a prime Jones until he got money hungry and found PED's in his old age. But atleast he wasn't scared to come over seas for a big fight when big fights are only in the US or involve US boxers. How can you beat nobody but try to set the terms of a big fight like Calzaghe? Hopkins got what he deserved by going to the bums backyard after getting ****ed before by the same ****. Had the Hopkins vs Calzaghe fight been anywhere else Bernard would've won. Calzaghe gets no respect for several reasons but not because he's white. I'm white by the way.

37 is the perfect age to retire. Always leave the fans wanting more.

                      1. the Hopkins win is underrated.
                      2. Calzaghes career is overrated.

Hopkins was still game. He went on to do very good things.
I don't think the fight was questionable at all. The only thing that keeps this silly argument going is incompetence by Adelaide Byrd and Hopkins (as usual) refusal to admit he lost. He never felt he lost a damn fight in his career. Even against Dawson where he clearly lost he had something to say about it.

For me it's a way to weed out silly posters. I can understand the nuthuggers will sink with the ship but if you're not heavily biased, have rewatched the fight and still say it's a robbery i'd not know what to tell you.

With that said. Kessler is surely the best win of Calzaghes career, and that is very telling. He had the tools to possibly be much greater, but he never proved it. To me he's not an ATG and i already am ready to consider Ward above him when ranking the SMW. And i really don't like Ward one bit.
