Why is Calzaghes win over Hopkins so underated?

The win is underrated because both guys looked poor in the fight but the fact is that calzaghe landed far more scoring shots and hopkins was faking low blows by the end hanging on making it look even worse for himself, plus one of the judges got it wrong and actually awarded hopkins the win and therefore adding to the cries about the fight that will surely last into eternity

I think the win was underrated at first, but now people are starting to come around based on what all Hopkins has went on to accomplish.

The problem was that, at the time, nobody really knew how much Bernard had left in the tank after getting beaten twice by a guy like Taylor.

That said, the Jones fight deserves little to no credit. Jones was done, even if some of us refused to believe it at the time.

Again turn the sound off. Just watch the video. That guy is not a hopkins fan.

he just understands scoring and has no national bias unlike some people.

You'll see that Calzaghe got tons of scoring points for punches that did not even get close to landing.

because hopkins made him looked like ****, JCC only won cos of his workrate, not his boxing ability.

Joe won because he landed more punches on Hopkins than anyone before or since and very handily outworked him. I honesly only gave Bernard 4 rounds and the KD, and had Joe winning big. I know the fight was sloppy, but there's no doubt to me that the 'privileged white boy', beat the 'hard, ****** black man'.

Joe doesn't get a lot credit overall so the Bernard win is his career in microcosm.

You can say that his resume is thin on the ground and that's a valid point but it's not entirely his fault or down to him ducking people as has been suggested. Even to his fans there was a period in Calzaghe's career that was frustrating because it stagnated. His hands were brittle and it looked liked his career was going to end because of it. Also Frank Warren had a tendency to overprotect his fighters and he wouldn't get them the big fights that they wanted, he did the same thing with Ricky Hatton. That doesn't enamour you to a fighters record.

Because of his brittle hands, he let off the power and stepped up the volume. It was either that or walk away from the fight game so he overwhelmed fighters and didn't let his opponents get in any kind of rhythm by constantly throwing. Now we can't get away from the fact that a lot of what he was throwing weren't legal punches, they were slaps. But on the other hand if all he was throwing was slaps like some of his opponents (including Bernard) claimed then why didn't they just walk through them?

To say that Hopkins was passed it is non starter when you take into account what he did in his next fight. It was a close fight no doubt, but to criticise Calzaghe for not looking his best makes no sense because that's what Hopkins does to his opponents and he's a master at it. I'm a fan of both fighters and that was only the second time in his career that I was leaning towards Bernard's opponent. It has to be said though, some of Hopkin's actions in the ring that night were embarrassing.

Joe Calzaghe never had anything more than decent power. Brittle hands or not.

So why is soccer popular with American youth? Blame Landon Donovan for setting off "U.S.A!" chants heard across the nation during the last World Cup.

its been near the top in participation levels for a long time in the states

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he was a knock out artist, but he threw harder than his hands could handle and because of that he had to adapt his style.

Maybe. It definitely didn't show in performances. Calzaghe was never a hard hitter.
