116-112 & I gave Cotto a round for outworking Floyd even though Floyd was a bit more efficient in that round. 118-110 was a bit too wide though so I can see why Cotto walked out in disgust after hearing that score. Floyd dug down deep & did what he had to do against a technical fighter who applies pressure. I bet Floyd will be goin back to 47 after this one though because he got roughed up. I doubt he fights Martinez any time soon after this. Excellent performance but he took some punishment. The commentary was biased because Floyd was actually missing some counterpunches & getting landed on despite people saying oh he's makin Cotto miss & making him pay. He was winning the rounds but I've never seen him miss that much or get hit that much to the head. Your nose don't bled like that round after round when ur makin him miss. Floyd put the exclamation on the victory with that dominant 12th round though & he had Cotto hurt there. If he had opened up like that a bit earlier he may have had Cotto out of there. Cotto didn't fade much down the stretch & it was interesting actually seeing both weary from the pace of the action. Floyd usually blows everbody out of the water but that didn't happen in this one. Maybe it was the hand injury coupled with the weight, whatever the case it led to the most action packed fight I've seen outta Floyd against a Cotto who has done a hell of a job reinventing himself. If Pac fought this Cotto at 54 he would not look nearly as good as he did in the first fight. Canelo impressed me with his poise against Shane but I still wanna see the kid in a couple bigger fights before they throw him in with Floyd. Money is going to have to show me he ain't slippin in his next fight.

USA TODAY and LA Times, 115-113, Cotto.
Some judges give close rounds to the Champ, cause they think the challenger has to prove himself. Some judges give close rounds to the fighter that presses the action.
Here it seems judges are either star struck, pro-industry, or just bought.
I'm not automatically giving Floyd Mayweather any close rounds just because he's Mayweather.
. Boxing is scored on CLEAN AND EFFECTIVE PUNCHING, Defense, Ring Generalship and EFFECTIVE Aggression. Not only did Mayweather outwork Cotto by throwing nearly 200 more punches, he outlanded Cotto VIA 74 punches. I don't go by Compubox much at all, but just giving examples here. So once again what were YOU watching, my friend. Like I said I'm NO fan of either of them, but when I see people saying RIDICULOUS s.hit like this, I get aggravated.
The only possible way you could MAYBE have cotto winning more than 3 rounds is if you counted EVERY single punch he threw, as a clean and effective blow, which obviously you technically can't due to the fact it's not a clean scoring blow. Cotto fought hard and is a DAMN good fighter who deserves his due, and as I've said in the past is NOT shot, and he landed a FEW decent shots, but he was outfought, out-boxed, outworked and ultimately outclassed.Last edited by Tmann400; 05-06-2012, 10:29 AM.

Great fight! I don't think Cotto won convincingly, but I do think it was close... and the money prevailed all those close rounds for a final UD decision for Floyd.
What I didn't like about how Cotto fought, was the lack of reaction to overcome the obvious exploited flaw... right hand over defense... Did anyone saw Cotto move his torso like in other fights? ...and also by not starting or alternating more with/to the defensive mode (like in Margarito's fight) that worked so great in middle rounds (thats a Pedro's error).
It seemed Cotto's only plan was to KO Floyd and missed some of his movements just to war and to get the KO... another Pedro's error I believe because Floyd is freaking elusive... and Cotto's power punches aren't fast, except his jab that was the only punch that did serious damage to Floyd... not capitalizing more on that, was Pedro's error... That will be exploited by Pac with his straight power punches ;-)
I believe Pac could bring some problems if he go in-out putting Floyd against the ropes... and oohh,,, quite obvious, Floyd is ALSO getting old!
Even besides all I mentioned, awesome fight for Cotto.... it was a WAR! First "true" lost to another great fighter! I am ok with the results... mi support for Cotto still intact.
Cotto-Pac rematch awaits after Floyd-Pac... lets WAR!

You don't let a guy pin you repeatedly, and even bust up your nose if you are "toying" with him.
Cotto is legitimate, and had they fought 4-5 years ago when it would have made more sense, Cotto may have added the first number to Mayweather's "L" column.
Still, this was a great fight, closer than the cards suggest, but the scoring was accurate. It was a round-per-round score, and Floyd did enough to steal a lot of them late.
What I would love to see is a rematch with Cotto taking what he's learned and applying it. But we know that Floyd will duck most rematches, because he doesn't like to risk facing a learned opponent.

I must've been drunker than I thought
because I keep reading these posts about how it was close and I watched it with 6 of my friends and to a person, we all thought Cotto did relatively well, but Mayweather actually won pretty easily.
I posted on a previous thread that Mayweather would win and not have a mark on him and that was certainly wrong, but I still didn't see it as that close.
With ALL that said, I think we just saw our first version of the older Mayweather, where he can't move his feet for 12 rounds and has to stay in pocket and rely on his head movement and shoulder rolls entirely for his defense. AND as we saw last night, when that happens, he will start getting hit and if he if starts getting hit, sooner or later, someone will hit him hard enough to hurt him. Think about how he kept perfect distance from Delahoya and tattoo'ed him with his jab throughout the middle of their fight, then last night Cotto, to his credit, kept his head right on him the latter half of the fight. It's was a great fight, by 1 great and 1 very good fighter.
1 last thought, there are enough really ****ty decisions in boxing to complain about without claiming that a good decision is bad just because we do or dont like a particular fighter.

IT wood be close but will never happen sucks to love boxing
These mother ****ers will never fight .both sides are to blame with there ******ed ****. pac. in my mine, wood fight mayweather 50/50, but arum is in the way. mayweather promotes his self, he dosnt want that fight. you can tell by some of his crazy remarks. Put all this crazy **** aside the fight wood be a pickem floyd cant use the shoulder roll against a strong lefty that puts out a lot of punches. I think the fight wood be a split decision , dont no who wood win and if you tell me you no your god go **** yourself FUNK OUT>
