Jermain taylor is shot, mosley is shot. Cotto, compared to them is still great.

As far as being a boxer is concerned, i say yes. He's not a yougn beast who will walk through all your shots, and break everyone down mentally and physically, but his boxing skills and technique seem to be way better and more refined.

Although he is no longer at his physical peak imo Cotto has never been better. The Cotto I saw in the Margacheato rematch looked like a whole new fighter. I've always felt that Cotto was more intelligent than the majority of fighters but the way he fought Margacheato really exceeded my expectations. The way he picked his shots, utilised footwork, and didn't panic when Cheato closed the distance really showed the difference Diaz has made.

Despite his improvements I still doubt that Cotto has what it takes to defeat Mayweather, but if he avoids trying to overpower Floyd and fights intelligently he might just make it competitive.

pacquiao beat the hell out of him.

and i seriously hope you're not talking about the first margarito fight.

if you think cotto came out of that fight the same way he went in you are wrong.

no way. cotto's tweaked his style certainly, but he has not gotten better

his success has to be attributed in part to matchmaking.

margarito was coming off of a beating and at the end of a long career of taking beatings in victory and defeat. his eye was also seriously compromised. i'm surprised he was even allowed to fight.

yuri foreman was never that good at his best and blew out his knee for good measure. cotto looked horrible if you care to remember how good he used to be.

and finally, ricardo mayorga was and is a complete sham and has been for the better part of the decade now.

this about sums it up as well. cotto was a very good fighter in his prime. if you guys cant see how far he's declined i dont know what to tell you.

lots of it comes from the need of some on the forum to aggrandize their heros (IE manny and floyd,)

both manny and floyd have miguel cotto on their resume's in name only

the great fighter who was in the wars has not existed since '08, when margarito took his prime away.

Before Margarito Cotto was winning his fights on the scales...

Even at 140 he entered the entered the ring close to 160..

Some guys are masters at piling on post weigh-in pounds..

A huge weight advantage accounted for his physicallity..that all played out when he fought MOSELY then Margarito...those guys swell up too.

Cotto lost something in the Mosley fight..

We'd never seen him backpaddle like that before.

Shane started Cotto going backwards and he's been stuck in reverse ever since..

He's a better fighter now, intelligence beats power. Floyd is living proof of that, so is JMM.
