Donaire peers......
Collapse
-
Nishioka- Inactive for almost a year
Arce- Fighting untested Jesus M Rojas in June at 118
Moreno- Just beat title challeger David De La Mora at 118
Mares- Just beat Eric Morel flyweight champ from almost a decade ago at a catchweight of 120 for a 122 title
Rigo- Fighting Teon Kennedy next
Donaire- Rumored to be fighting Mijares or IBF titlist Jeffery Mathebula
None of his peers have exactly been fighting a murders row of opponents. IMO WV2 beats everybody that his peers have been/will be lined up against (Teon Kennedy, Eric Morel, De La Mora, Rojas.) If Donaire has been fighting "soft touches" lately what does that say about his peers? Thoughts???
As for Mares, his competition has been at least consistent while Donaire downgrades every time. Morel is not prime Morel but last night regardless of being dominated he put up a pretty good fight. Also, Moreno gets credit for beating Darchi but when Mares beat him, he was "aging"?Last edited by .:: JSFD26 ::.; 04-22-2012, 11:19 AM.Comment

Donaire is in his 4th weight class now, and he's already 29. He's beaten Darchinyan, Maldonado, Mthalane, H. Marquez, Montiel, and Vazquez Jr. His Flyweight resume was solid, all of those fighters were in the Top 10 there at Flyweight, and Darchinyan was Top 10 P4P at the time. Hernan Marquez was an alright win, but he wasn't even in the Top 10 when Nonito beat himand it was an interim title. Montiel was a really good win at 118, he was Top 10 P4P. Still, there were so many other fighters at 118 he didn't fight (Perez, Agbeko, Mares, Moreno, etc). He still has chances to get some of those on his reusme though, so we'll see. And Vazquez Jr was Top 10 at 122 by default I guess. He's never beaten anyone and got TKO'd by Arce in his only step up.
His resume is lacking for being 29 and going through 4 weight classes.
By the time someone like Floyd was entering his 4th weight class, he'd beaten far better fighters. He'd beaten G. Hernandez, Manfredy, Gerena, G. Vargas, Corrales, C. Hernandez, Chavez, Castillo, Corley, Gatti, and Judah. Genaro was the lineal champ at 130, the best SFW in the world. Manfredy was the #1 SFW contender in the world and had just beaten a prime Gatti prior to fighting Floyd. G. Vargas was a Top 10 SFW at the time, was coming off beating Tackie, who would go on to have fights with Tszyu, Mitchell, and Hatton. Corrales was the #1 SFW in the world and #5 P4P, unbeaten. C. Hernandez and Chavez were both Top 10 SFW's and would on to win titles, and fight Morales. Castillo was the lineal champ at 135, coming off beating Bazan and Johnston, would also go on to have more good wins in his career, the best LW of his era. Corley was a Top 10 JWW coming off a close loss to Judah. Gatti was the 2nd best JWW in the world, coming off wins over Leija and Dorin, held the WBC title. And Judah was a Top 10 WW at the time as well, though he was coming off a loss.
When comparing to Donaire to the point he's at his career, to other great fighters, his resume is lacking for the amount of hyope he receives.Comment

Let's not forget Donaire hasn't been able to finish his opponents as of late. All going the distance. You can knock on Martinez for fighting "bums" but at least he's finishing them. Why is Donaire #4 P4P? It beats me but it's dumb as ****.Comment

wv2 was a good first fight/win for donaire at 122..no reason to knock that fight. donaire could of had his first fight at 122 against arce, but arce vacated the 122 belt he won against wv2 to fight at 118. also donaire vs mathebula would be a decent fight...the guy is ranked in the top ten and has the ibf belt, so it isn't like donaire would be fighting some guy who isn't proven at 122.Last edited by Bermuda; 04-22-2012, 12:12 PM.Comment

That proves a lot... Let's look at ranking and belt. That doesn't necessarily work in boxing ALL the time. Now does it?Comment

yes, it's a decent fight (not the best of course) based on the fact that mathebula is at least ranked in the top ten and has a belt...just relax..the year isn't exactly over yet..if donaire ends the year with someone like arce or some **** then you can go on raging.Comment

Rigo just finished embarrassing Ramos and been asking for Donaire. But just like every P4P listed fighter, he milks the status, avoid real challenges and go fight tomato cans. WV2 got taken out but fkin Arce why the hell are you praising him so much...?
