I urge you to look at the full Lewis-McCall fight. keep in mind that this poor unhinged guy had been constantly in and out of sanitoriums for the previous year, full of dope and booze, and other mentsl problems, and had gone in again only SIX WEEKS before the fight. He may have been there only a week..... But it's an open fact that he was dragged out for this fight, and became unwillingly,(surely against his private doctor's advice-no doctor could approve this) and not trained.

Again, look at the fight with a critical eye, and I believe you'll come to the conclusion as I did. It jumps out at you. You can see that McCall, after the second (I think) rd can't even sit down in the intervals, but wanders all over the ring as if out for an aimless stroll. Mills Lane should have immediately stopped the fight right there. Of course, if he'd done that.......it would have become an NC with McCall retaining the title. He waited until after the 4th rd of this bizzarre spectacle and waved the fight off after the first few seconds. All nice and "legal". I don't say that Lewis was involved in planning this, but he took part, and had the chutzpah to claim it as a victory. To his credit, it can actually be seen that he was uncomfortable. Lane and both promoters should have been investigated, and the purse held up.

Don King's "fine Byzantine hand" was all over this.

Thing is, what was Lennox supposed to do? McCall was crying and wandering around the ring, but it was still a title fight. Lennox had to do what he had to do to win. I can't recall Lennox ever gloating over the McCall victory or making light of McCall's condition. It was an embarrassing situation all round. Blame King for that.

Considering the cuts, the way he was getting pounded in the 6th and the way he was holding on, I'd say it was Vitaly that got away with his life.

Lennox Lewis is the only fighter to legitimately beat the crap outta Vitali. Damn, it's got to the stage where even I can't deny the power of the nostalgia.. The Klitschko era is the most universally deplored era in heavyweight history, most boxing fans can't wait until they retire so that excitement has a chance to flourish once again in the division. It's a sad reality but a reality nonetheless.
