Why do people think cotto beating margarito is a big deal?

I think it was a big deal to Cotto himself, as he said in his 24/7 it gave him his confidence back...just in time for Mayweather.

I don't know. It wasn't even an "Aight" win. The guy was no where to be seen in the top 10 at JMW or WW. He wasn't even an okay win for Pacquiao, for the same reason, he was not a top 10 fighter at 147 or 154. So, much less for Cotto who got the sloppy eyed version of the unranked Margarito. Like it has been mentioned already, only Puerto Rican fans actually see that as a good win.

I agree with Mayorga and Margarito. And it took him a while to stop Mayorga, and it wasn't even a great stoppage, it was just Mayorga punking out with some phony arm injury. Another fighter who wasn't even a top 10 at JMW. Back to back fights like that, and the guy is ready for Floyd. LOL.

It's not stellar but I'm not sure beating Mayweather would add to it much either given that he's more of a natural WW without much pedigree at 154lbs.

Cotto needs to beat someone like Martinez at 154lbs to really claim he's 'arrived' at the weight.
