Why is Floyd such a big draw???

Floyd Mayweather is arguably one of the biggest draws in boxing history, expecially in recent era's. His PPV sales per fight is second only to Mike Tyson, and is compared to Pacquiao and De La Hoya in terms of PPV sales all the time.

He isn't that all out exciting and explosive fighter like Tyson or Pacquiao, and he isn't a fighter that is loved by a huge loyal fan base like Oscar De La Hoya, the biggest Mexican-American star in recent time, was. Or like Manny Pacquiao, who's beloved by his entire country till the end, no matter what.

He is one of the most gifted fighters, one of the most controversial as well.

What would you pick as the mian reason to why Floyd is such a huge draw???

    Personality

The biggest draws of all time hardly had the most exciting styles. Many of them were boxers and boxer-punchers. Swarmers and sluggers bring more drama.

    Jack Johnson
    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Muhammad Ali
    Oscar de La Hoya

Having the right personality should carry them through as long as their style isn't painfully boring.

So I guess you'd say his trash talk, him being controversial and having a very controversial personality, right???

I would say a good amount of his PPV sales come from people that want to see him get the smugness beaten out of him & see him lose that 0.

Then there's his fans, who also contribute to his sales obviously.

Ricardo Mayorga was hardly the most dominant, skillful, or consistent fighter, but he was granted many opportunities. His mouth built buzz for fights. It comes down to personality.

Shane Mosley had an exciting style and a weak fanbase.

A few factors...in no particular order:

                1. He's been around a long time which has allowed him to build familiarity with the audience.

                2. He's been winning most of his fights, the unbeaten record goes a long way.

                3. He's fought some big name fighters which has expanded his level of recognition around the globe, notably Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton

                4. He's created a TV personality through 24/7, Dancing with Stars etc

                5. People tune in to see a loudmouthed idiot get beaten...it hasn't happened yet but oh it's coming...

Edit: oh and skills comes well down the list

That's why he out sold Pac, arguably the biggest draw as well, with Oscar-Hatton-Mosley, and is about to with Cotto....

There both big draws. Be objective and stop trolling the thread. What is the main reason, to you, as to why Floyd is such a big draw???

I literally laughed at "His aura of invincibility, him being unbeaten."

There is no "aura of invincibility" with Floyd. He already lost to Oscar and Castillo and he struggled with Hatton, Mosley, and Judah. The plain and simple truth is that people tune in to see Floyd lose. He's built a persona on being the biggest douche rocket in the sport of boxing, because he knows his fighting style alone would draw little to no fans. His racist rants, sucker punching and such only hurt his reputation but he seems to thrive on these type of things. Cotto will bully him and Pac would end his career in a few rounds.

To put it plain and simple... When Pac is talked about, they are saying good things.

When Floyd is talked about, they are saying bad things.
