You don't offer someone their highest purse if you're declining a fight.

Isn't that your line about Naz and Marquez? You're a walking double standard dude, it's pathetic.

Naz did not offer Marquez a fight and then switch the money at the last second. Which is what Floyd did to Winky and is currently doing to Pacquiao. Its a clever tactic cos tards like you buy into it.

Wright wanted 50/50 all along. Had nothing to do with switching money, he turned down the fight. It is what it is, he has done this his whole career.

Still, I find it pretty remarkable that Floyd does big numbers. I know why the hardcores are interested - we are watching an ATG in his last few fights. But for the casuals? His fights are hardly entertaining - he's either pitching shut-outs or pulling **** like the Ortiz fight.

And it's not like he's facing huge threats either. Say what you want abou DLH but he fought some great fighters.

If I was in America, I absolutely would not pay for another Floyd fight after the Ortiz farce. That, and the fact that his whole career right now just feels like a cash-grab, a way to top of his bank balance, just turns me off completely.
Before Mayweather vs Pacquiao was mentioned, Mayweather had already participated in the highest selling HBO PPV of all time, and the richest fight of all time. And then he preceded to sell another 900k+ HBO PPV's with Hatton in the same year, also selling 1.6Million UK PPV buys in Sky Sports, breaking the previous record of 750k UK PPV's, for Lewis-Tyson. Making Mayweather-Hatton the #1 selling Sky Sports PPV, in front of Lewis-Tyson and Tyson-Bruno. 2007 is HBO's highest selling year. So Mayweather was in record-breaking fights well before Pacquiao came in to the picture.

Don't get me wrong, it takes two, and Floyd certainly didn't do those numbers by himself. The 1.6Million PPV's for Sky with Hatton, had a lot to do with Hatton. But unfortunately, those numbers could not be repeated when Hatton fought Pacquiao, or when Hatton fought any one else before Floyd.

Honestly, I've never understood it. He's not one of the more entertaining fighters in the sport, he isn't in competitive fights, he isn't particularly good at trash talk, I really don't get it. With the controversy he often generates, I could understand being a good PPV draw, but not the monster PPV draw he is.

Floyd agreed to 50/50 then changed the split....sound familiar?

all of the above EXCEPT his pure boxing skills. why do you think he took on the bad guy persona? because being a talented boxer with his style of fighting wasn't enough.

They tried very hard for an immediate rematch, but Beristain, I think, persuaded Marquez to demand $1.5 mil. I remember Beristain saying "we won't fight for a cent less". This was about 3 times his previous purse and I think was even more than Pacquiao was getting. There was a lot of analyst talk about that and it dragged on for a little while. So the fight was off. I think I have the basic facts correct.

By the way, wanting to ask, I always thought that Managua was in Nicargua. There is even a song with the words......."Managua Nicaragua is a wonderful place"....The only words I remember.
