You're absolutely right. I was surprised to find the definition of the word on the web includes people living in the US. But I think it's in the same vein as the word 'sandwich' is included in any spanish dictionary. It's an adopted term.

Still, I don't think I'm incorrect in believing people raised in mex/pr are fundamentally different than the people raised in the usa, regardless of their latino parents. I mean, it's just one example, but here in PR there is no racism, none. We don't care about that. We do have a different sort of discrimination based on social standing, (de publica o privada). I have no fear of police for having color on my skin or wearing a hoodie or whatever. I have fear of police because I come from a caserio and that automatically makes me su****ious. I'm sure the same differences apply to mexicans/cubans/dominicans.

lol. i guess the natives just decided to take on spanish names then. regardless of what puerto ricans think of their black, native and spanish counterparts, very few of us are one or the others. we have a little bit of everything in us. and it doesn't have to be a bad thing. it is who we are.
