It was stopped at the right moment it got to the point that Margarito could not some of the hard punches that were landed. People assume that he was starting to press on Cotto but it is like the fact that after being 8 rounds up on the score cards Cotto was in a position where he could take a breather so that he could focus on turning up the heat in the last 2 rounds.

Margarito got his ass whooped, the only thing waiting for him was a prolonged beating.

To be fair that was an assumption of the commentators, you can't clearly see what caouse it just because they said so.

Cotto was landing some serious power shots to MArgaritos head in round nine, so hard the he had to hold Cotto's left arm to avoid them. See video below on minute 6:00

Cotto got a gift by the Doctor.. also Pacquiao should've gotten another W for that win. He's the one that did 95% of the damage. All Cotto did was show up to rob Margarito

But we all shoulda known that was gonna happen.

New York weren't prepared to see what might happen to Cotto in those last 9 minutes.

don't hate bro... Margarito was going to end his career in the last couple rounds.

he was just teasing Cotto's fans for the first 8... to swiftly crush all of their dreams and hopes in the last couple rounds, before the doctor robbed him

            Margarito's a boss like that

I'm kind of in the middle so I would say it was an acceptable stoppage. No, the eye wasn't so bad that it needed to be stopped but with the prior history of the eye it is better to be safe than sorry. Margarito knew going into the fight that the eye will always be a target and he needed to protect it and not put himself in that position, he didn't. As a Cotto fan I had hoped it would of continued because Miguel was beating him to a pulp.

Why? That fight was nothing like the first. Maragrito was getting a few shots in the later rounds but Miguel was easily controlling the action and winning the rounds.

Yeah but he notoriously fades in the championship rounds and Tony was turning up the heat. No one is gonna convince me that 9 whole minutes of that kinda pressure wouldn't have troubled Miguel.

didnt pick any of your options because they all ******

it had nothing to do with anybody gassing out

margarito was getting the doors boxed off of him and wasnt much of a threat, but that's not the whole story either

his repaired eye almost kept him from getting a license before the fight. it was a huge story. it was swollen shut at that stage. prior to the fight they brought in a second ringside doctor if i remember correctly to monitor the eye.

there's an enormous amount of responsibility vested in the commissions and the medical people in charge of licensure

it was a good stoppage. margarito is shot as hell and he was taking a licking for the second fight in a row. he couldnt see out of his bad eye. the swelling was clearly not the product of your standard bruising aroudn the eyes. the eye itself had very localized inflammation.
                      great stoppage.
