Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Doesn't Rule Out a Canelo Showdown

Middleweight king Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28KOs) is open to dropping down in weight for the right fight. If Martinez is unable to finalize a September fight against WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (45-0-1, 31KOs) - the Argentine star is willing to move down as low as 150-pounds to make face a major name - and that includes WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0-1, 29KOs).

I can't see Martinez/Alvarez being that competitive at this point. Maybe in a couple years, as Sergio pushes 40 and Canelo gets more (elite level) fights under his belt.

Probably... all Canelo cares about is being considered the P4P best so fighting a top 3 P4P is very tempting.

so he's going to move down at 154 for canelo but kirkland has to go up to 160 to fight him.

He should. He isn't proven shot yet, the timing isn't right for canelo to take interest.

I'd love to see Canelo step up and fight Martinez, it'd make Chavez look like even more of a coward. Alvarez might actually but....

I don't think Golden Boy will ever let that happen. he's fighting a broke down over the hill Shane Mosley when he could be facing his mandatory opponent James Kirkland. I think Alvarez is patient enough to take out Kirkland but it seems GBP doesn't have faith in the kid or they'd stop matching him against bums and old guys.

I got Martinez by KO but Canelo has a great left hook and always has a punchers chance.
