Seriously, it's been years since I heard HBO or Showtimes commentary. Not to mention, most fight parties are so loud, you can't hear them anyway...
I think Showtimes are excellent, or at least in comparison to HBO.

As much as I really despise HBO's coverage, I don't think I could bring myself to mute them. That's a helluva a step, man. What brought that on?

I have been watching boxing since I was 6...I am 32 now. I have always heard that turning down or muting the commentary was the way to watch a fight without bias. I will admit, it took some getting used to, but it is the way to go for me.

Now this is not to say I still don't hear commentary of fights, but I rarely agree with what they are saying. The bias of HBO has been out of control for awhile now, but it;s not like you can't take steps to enjoy the fight without hearing it.

I took that step, and now it is the norm for me. So to answer you question, I have heard the bias, and do not agree with much that is said with many telecast (of both stations). So the only opinion I hear is mine (and regardless of what many think of me, I know what I'm looking at). That is what made me take that step.

I usually like HBO commenting to be honest, and in recent months I've been trying to ignore the increasing number of people who call it crap and think it's still great because of the classic names that come along with it. But tonight it was pretty awful, they completely downplayed the hard accurate punching of Sergio, bashed him all night long till the knockout and then praised him as impressive and a true champion. Also Larry completely cut off Sergio during the interview and to me it came off as very disrespectful, hell Macklin talked longer than Martinez did.

I agree, it was nerve racking hearing them tonight. Usually they're a lot better than that.

I think this post might have just inspired me to mute the next HBO covered-fight.

I have actually muted the coverage when I've got a Russian/Mexican stream, and I don't want to hear a language I don't understand over the top.

It is pretty cool, though takes some getting used to - when you're realise you're relying on JUST your own eyes. Which sounds simple enough, but you get so conditioned from receiving affirmation from the commentary team for what you just saw, that it's a little jarring.

But yeah, HBO really are that bad right now.

I'm glad I could provide maybe another option for you.

Also, I really do respect the fact that we could hold a convo with no flaming. Very rare nowadays on this site.

Maybe we can talk boxing again sometime, but for now, I gotta go...My chick is giving me that look!!!!:*******:

It's too bad their enthusiasm and optimism toward fights have been lacking, they can be soo good when they're on.

roy and max are the only ones i feel who come across as genuinely happy to be there watching the fighters do what they do. Larry will be Larry even though he has gotten progressively worse.....it's really just Jim who has been lacking to me. look at some old tapes of him, he was genuinely excited and helped newbie/casual fans follow along in a way that made sense instead of injecting a ton of his opinion. he'd just call the fight
