I didn't watch that fight on HBO, but maybe because JMM is not an average fighter like Macklin. Sergio is supposed to be #3 p4p yet many times he doesn't look like it.

HBO has one of the best commentary crews in all of sports.

The only ones I enjoy more than theirs, are Barkley and Smith w/NBA and Corso and Herbstreet calling college football. Even then I look at it as pretty d@mn even.

Kellerman, Jones Jr, Steward and Lampley would be a great cast with me.

With Dunk Larry gone, I think Lampley wouldn't ramble on. Steward should have told Larry to STFU during the fight.....

Lampley was unenthusiastic and mailing it in starting with the undercard.

Then Merchant starts bashing Sergio from the 1st round before they have even gotten going.

They really subtracted from my viewing enjoyment tonight.

They turn perfectly reasonable fights into crap horrible fights in the eyes of causal viewers, they know no better so they go along with what they hear.

All they are teaching the causal viewer that if it aint high pace action or a brawl, the fight sucks. When there is much more to boxing then that.

Showtime's crew is so much more enthusiastic and objective. Maybe HBO can hire them away.

Yeah man, and this was a good tactical fight. Macklin fought a very smart fight, he knew that if he turned things into a brawl he would've been KOd in the first rounds.

These HBO guys just wanted Martinez to destroy Macklin in 1 round, and if he didn't then he was exposed.

First of all I want to congratulate Sergio Martinez on a great fight.

I thought that was a great display of skill, speed, timing, and power from the undisputed MW champ.

But it was hard to enjoy the fight between all the complaining, *****ing, moaning, and crying from the HBO staff.

Christ do I really need to hear Merchant, Lederman, and company complain all night for a brawl?

This is getting out of hand I couldn't have been the only one begging my TV screen for Merchant and Lederman to STFU!

Also how the hell is a trip, by Macklin a KD? WTF?

Sort of getting tired of hearing this complaint after every fight (HBO broadcast mainly)..

To be fair, I think the reason I get sick of hearing it is, I haven't watched a boxing match (besides PPV fight parties) with commentary on for years now. That's just me I guess..

Yeah, I can't stand Merchant anymore and I was a person who always enjoyed his "commentary". Kellerman, Lamps, and RJJ is my all-star HBO team.


And was it me or were they really pushing for Martinez to call Floyd out and not Chavez Jr? Almost like they were protecting Chavez or something and barely referred to him the whole broadcast.
