HBO needs a new crew.

It's repetitive.....but absolutely legitimate.Sort of getting tired of hearing this complaint after every fight (HBO broadcast mainly)..
To be fair, I think the reason I get sick of hearing it is, I haven't watched a boxing match (besides PPV fight parties) with commentary on for years now. That's just me I guess..
HBO are in a real crisis, and have been for a few years.
Showtimes' team and ascent really highlight how pitiful HBO are right now.
No enthusiasm, riddled with mistakes, constant negativity, digressing into issues that have nothing at all to do with the fight at hand.
Sometimes has to give.Comment

Where to begin on this.. The HBO team, Its a geriatric dinosaur.. They detracted from an otherwise good fight for me. They should be lauding praise on Martinez for getting another ko. He's on a streak. These are underrated fighters he's putting down. When they down Martinez for his age, style, and pretty much everything else they are hitting him where it hurts most. His MONEY. Broadcasters should in a sense help to promote fighters to the casual fan as Showtime does. These HBO clowns detract from enthusiasm for the sport with their obvious biases and (very)undeserved superiority complexes. Fighters carry the day in boxing, not announcers. Tar and feather them and cast them into the street!Comment

Believe me you weren't. After listening to Merchant I was really under the impression that the only thing this guy wanted was a brawl. He just can't seem to give boxers credit when they use their brains to win fights instead of brawling like a moron. Didn't catch too much from Lederman though other than the glasses he was wearing.First of all I want to congratulate Sergio Martinez on a great fight.
I thought that was a great display of skill, speed, timing, and power from the undisputed MW champ.
But it was hard to enjoy the fight between all the complaining, *****ing, moaning, and crying from the HBO staff.
Christ do I really need to hear Merchant, Lederman, and company complain all night for a brawl?
This is getting out of hand I couldn't have been the only one begging my TV screen for Merchant and Lederman to STFU!
Also how the hell is a trip, by Macklin a KD? WTF?Comment

I like Bernstein,Tarver, and Farhood but Johnson is garbage imo. Ive been tired of Merchant on HBO but he is a legend to some so i guess he has to stay.Comment

No ****, my girl hates when fights are on...It is totally silent, and then I blurt out crazy **** when good shots land.
Seriously, it's been years since I heard HBO or Showtimes commentary. Not to mention, most fight parties are so loud, you can't hear them anyway...Comment

If boxing fans made enough noise about things like this HBO would have to address it. But we are all over the place as a boxing community that the complements don't go further then some tweets and one or two online threads here and there.
This **** that HBO is doing is not good for causal fans, I dont know how the higher ups dont see it. These dudes help drive away fans during perfectly good fights.Last edited by DE100; 03-18-2012, 12:20 AM.Comment

Get rid of Merchant. He's well past prime and basically shot. Keep Lampley. If Merchant isn't around watch Lampley's performance improve. He's still one of the best commentators in any sport imho.Comment
