  • VG win 4 Sergio as he had to adapt some, overcome a KD?(yes it was, the glove touched the floor)...worse thing of the evening from what I'm hearing was HBO idiots, but I watched Spanish version...doubt if he'll box FM, is he coming to "54??

    I'd rather c him batter, bruise & stop JCC Jr...Le's c Jr's next excuse...

Not to mention he took pavlik & williams short notice...wasn't even prepping for those fights...dude is legit.

HBO wants to ride donaire but he's left hook happy & if u don't fight ****** he can't wear u down & stop u...not to mention he's not as strong as he goes up in weight. Serg is beasting 2 wt classes. He was 3 lbs under @ the weigh-in. If the kirlkland fight ever gets made kirkland gets stopped inside of 6 rds....
There is some good **** in this post for real. Fighters that can adjust will always have a chance no matter who they are fighting. JMM, Floyd, Maravilla, and only a handful of others can do it consistently which is why they are at the top of the boxing world.

LOL Fair enough, Lee definately didn't look amazing against McEwan but he did get the knockout in the end. Besides that nobody at MW will fight Sergio anyways, Lee to me is the next challenger before he can go for a true megafight, he should wipe the MW division out. I think it'd be a more exciting fight than you'd think.

Martinez was also landing that left the entire time, just not to the head. Martinez was jabbing away when he was going back, and landing the straight when hew as coming forward he was in complete control almost the entire fight. Was Martinez even out of breath at the end of the fight? He landed almost everything he wanted. He started putting more on the right jab later on and Macklin would completely lose his footing from it and have to reset. Macklin did surprisingly well, but Martinez controlled throughout. HBO really doesn't like Martinez, that guy has been trying to get props for a long time now. Martinez DEFINITELY gets robbed if JCC jr comes in at 180+ again and is able to tank Martinez's hits til a decision. And if JCC Jr doesnt even have to drug test..good luck, Sergio, facing a guy with a 20 pound weight difference and the most crooked promoter known to man who has ALSO been caught buying off officials in the 90s I believe? Jcc Jr, physically..can give Martinez a lot of problems. That is a LOT of weight to overcome at that particular weight class.

Also, Martinez seemed like he trimmed some muscle down or is it just me? He seemed thinner, even his legs seemed skinny. I think it's clear he has something planned for 154. I bet he has his eye on mayweather-cotto winner.

How come you didn't mention all the running Martinez did in this fight?

After tonight's fight, Floyd didn't say he'd fight Martinez anyway.

i completely agree with you. chavez would have 20 pounds on martinez on fight night, and he would have win by ko because he can't win decisions in the us, especially not against chavez. funny thing is martinez was never a knock out puncher, but he has to be in the us because he will get robbed if he doesn t ko.

Martinez thought Macklin would be more aggressive, since he wasn't as aggressive as Martinez thought he had to adjust.

He dominated the fight. I had Macklin winning 2 rounds, one being a 10-8. Martinez didn't dominate in a Mayweather style fashion but he did exactly what he said he would do he just had to adjust and that took him longer than expected. TKO in 11 instead of 9.
                  You saw Martinez dominating?

I'm not hyping Macklin as even a good fighter. I am saying that he's an awkward, oafish type fighter that was fighting tooth and nail with Martinez until he started gassing in round 9.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

My point is simply that Martinez isn't as good as some think to justify a #3 ranking on a P4P list.

Macklin has little to NO technique. He isn't fast, strong or coordinated. It was his approach to the fight that kept him in it, and he abandoned that approach once he starting breathing heavy.

If this had been Alexander, Berto or Bradley having this done to them by someone like Mickey Ward or Paulie Malignaggi, there would be lingering unanswered questions about them because a P4P#3 shouldn't be able to be dragged into deep waters by someone of Macklin's talent.

If you seriously saw this as a dominating performance for Martinez then the bar has been lowered to such a degree that things just don't make sense.

Adrien Broner, and up and coming kid has a tough fight against Ponce de Leon and people are saying that the kid is all hype.

P4P#3 Sergio Martinez looks like a frustrated old man against Macklin and it was a dominating performance?

                  Wow.

World class boxers will watch what Macklin did to stay in the fight and analyze it, revamp it and do it much better. The only adjusting Martinez did in this fight was outlast Macklin until Macklin became so tired that he wasn't moving his head, working behind the jab or throwing the left hook like McGirt was begging him to.

A tired fighter who gave all he had in the first 9 rounds isn't going to finish a 12 round fight. With each round we saw Macklin's workrate diminish. McGirt kept asking for head movement and jabs ... and when Martinez kept throwing and landing his left, McGirt correctly asked for Matt to throw left hooks.

Macklin just didn't have any steam left. I know for sure it wasn't Martinez' skill that beat Macklin.

THey threw him on 2 of sergios undercards. I thought the purpose was to allow people to get a good look at sergios potential next opponent. I think the displeasure with how Lee performed in those two occasions are why that fight has never come to fruition. I personally am very unimpressed with Lee as of late though moreso than I was with JCCjr, but I don't doub that fight coming off next.

Though, because of Lees hbo backing I expect one of the lesser known overseas fighters to try and use him for a coming out party, and i think they'd succeed in doing so.

I believe he will end up in the ring with either Proksa or Pirog, as crazy as that sound. I also think he gets the winner of Wright/Quillin, and if the fight doesn't come off, I see him and Quillin fighting one another.

I do not believe he wins any of these fights though, shrug.

i agree with you that this was not a dominating performance, but macklin is the second best middle weight in the world, and martinez was the best 154 pounder and is the best 160 pounder in the world. the results are clear, martinez has been winning, whether you like his style or whether you like how he's won is besides the point. the results are what matter, and martinez has been taking care of business.
