'Everyone' doesn't get handed those opportunities. They're reserved for promoters' favourites. Broner was jumped over two entire divisions for that plum shot at Malignaggi.

That's one of the main reasons it means fuck all. Your promoter cherry-picking weak beltholders for you isn't even related to being a multiple division champion as it was historically understood.

It's definitely easier than pre-WBO. But as I said to shade darker, for example, you wouldn't call Manny a 6 division champ and knock off 135 and 154 because it was Diaz and then margs who was1-1-1 at weight.

I hate to be arguing for broner because he isn't professional and I don't agree with larryxxx, but I do think he earned these belts.
He earned his belts at 135 and 147.

Not at 130, he was given that belt.

I don't disagree with you, but that can be said for a number of championship belts won, which is why you have to be careful minimizing what Broner has done.

If we throw all of them out, fine with me. But it's not right to just do it to Broner no matter how much of a clown he is.

Maybe so, but a lot of fighters have been "given" one or more of their belts.

I'm not making Broner out to be Duran or even Floyd. I'm simply saying he still had to win those fights and as such deserves some credit.

Lots of boxers who were given fights they were expected to win title belts lost.

None of this changes the fact that being a 3 divison champion with the wins he has is a joke.

Broner had no control over what happened prior to him getting the title fights.

We can agree to disagree on this point as I don't think that much of broner despite strongly feeling the accomplishment is still somewhat worthy of respect.

Yeah, but pretty much everyone is doing it,,, pauli, Bradley, Devon, khan, ghost, maidana etc.. They are all multiple weight class title holders..

Ghost Guerrero has gone from featherweight to welter and won a bunch of titles and still has yet to have a signature win besides if you count Berto

                  Belts are pretty worthless

you don't have to throw them all out. you just have to actually look who they fought on a case by case basis. ok leonard beat benitez, kalule, and hagler. he checks out. broner beat rodriguez(who?), demarco, and malignaggi. he doesn't check out.

Funnily enough Guerrero has only ever won two full titles, the IBF straps at 126 & 130.

Of course that didn't stop them calling him a six-time world champion or whatever it was on All Access.
