First thing you need to know is good foot work. Without proper foot technique you are screwed

    Foot Work
    How to tie wraps
    Basic Punches
    Basic Combos
    etc
    etc
    etc
    Positioning.

Positioning is only for a fight/spar session. Good Trainers wont even let kids spar without getting the fundamentals right on the heavy/speed bags.

Movement, not being linear all the time. Box circles around the opponent literally.

Oh yeah definitely thats a great drill, if its that hopkins video where he talking to the mma fighter, everything he says in there is true. If he is running, tucking that tennis ball would be good. Tennis ball all day, also some good **** for conditioning:

-grabbing handfuls of rice and squeezing hard: will strengthen wrists, forearms
-jumps from sqaut positioning, possible jumproping from sqaut position like tyson
        -medium/wide grip overhand pullups

You mean the way Lara does on my sig? Yea, it's beautiful. Takes a step forward to bait his opponent into throwing/opening up, breaks up the guard with his head allowing him to land the straight left after the hook.

If your son already knows defense which is generally the last thing the kids learn in boxing then you have to teach him how to relax when he is in the ring.

Being so offensive minded at times keeps the fighters in the pocket to long

                Its really that simple.

You don't start off with punching.

You don't start off with defense.

You start off teaching a kid how to stand in place.

Consign. .before footwork a person needs to learn how to be still, balanced, centered yet slightly off the "line" with their back heal slightly off the floor...this is also something that is consistently slept on today..u should know this before stepping. ....nowadays people are taught to step using one method ...the tension built up in the back leg can be used as a great motor to project u forward...u just have to know how to do it correctly so its not too forceful to where u jump or have too much forward momentum ...its a much more athletic movement then just the Frankensteinish move the front leg back leg front leg back leg. ..but it all starts with being still and balanced back heel up n conscious of ur weight transfer.

                  Learn the Jab and footwork.

Most important punch of them all I think, start learning to Jab, then move with the jab

First thing is conquering FEAR in my opinion. You won't think straight if you are scared. Anything mental should have priority.

I see you understand what I was saying.

Its amazing how much you can tell about a poster by what they write in threads like this.

                      Good post.
