It seems so obvious. Gamboa had been baptized with a new Godfather who told him to not to worry about Arum. He'll be taken care of. Who would do something ****** like Gamboa did if he didn't have a ganglord protecting him? That's why this lawsuit is more than Gamboa and it will take years to settle it. It's become personal to Arum. He's fuming mad. Everyone is. Fans are mad at the number one duck. He denied the fans the big fight and now this.

adding to that a possible signing bonus and you have an amount I doubt anyone will ante up while this is going on
now say AFTER this settles and Gamboa is finally a free agent only then can I see a new promoter step inComment

Not to mention there is nothing particularly unusual about Gamboa's deal. It's pretty standard.
In general (not directed at Ean):
Aren't promoters supposed to get paid too? I mean, they actually perform a function, right? Not saying the cuts were sublime, but you'd think all fighters could do what Floyd does based on the thoughts expressed by some.
Here's the deal:
In the whole history of boxing, there have been a handful of guys with enough cache to essentially hire promoters one fight at a time. Leonard. Ali late in his career. Floyd for the moment. Mike Tyson came close to one of the great split deals ever but chose instead to go full tilt with King (he chose that). Others had great HBO subsidies based on their 'P4P' talent that did not reflect their market worth (and ultimately harmed the pay scale of the overall sport in the U.S.).
Everyone else NEEDS promotion and promoters take losses on most guys coming up in the hope to build them into someone they can make money off of later. Profiting off a long term investment is not stealing.
Top Rank has plenty of negatives. I don't see them so far in this particular instance.
Very well said Roldie. . . I was basically reiterating the same point earlier. . .Comment

I think we should all agree that THE BEST thing that can happen for boxing fans is whatever it takes to get Gamboa back in the ring ASAP. . .
I'm not gonna lie, I was a little pissed at him pulling out like that after letting the buildup go on for so long; he even did an interview a few weeks ago (read here on boxingscene) about how he was ready to fight Rios, etc. . . THINK it was him speaking directly. . . Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not trying to put out false information. . . It could have been his "team."
But it is what it is. .. this shyt happens in boxing. . . I just want it all to be resolved. . . And even if you don't like Mayweather, if fighting under Mayweather is what it takes to get him back in the ring ASAP, then so be it. .. WHATEVER! JUST GET THIS MAN BACK IN THE RING!Comment

I think the "idiots of the year" award could go to the posters who preceded you in this thread.
For idiocy they are supremely oblivious to the fact that they're defending someone who has reneged on a lawful contract properly executed.
It seems that everyone who has any dealings with Mayweather becomes tainted in some way.
It also loos as if Top Rank could be awarded large consequential/special damages, which could be deducted from any purse he earns for the next years, until paid in full with interest added. He really seems to be in a mess. If he has smart and not self-serving lawyers, they will advise him to come to an agreement with Top Rank either to work out his contract and recmpense them, or buy his contract out, finding a guarantor for the full amount owing. This latter will not be easy to find.
As an interesting matter, from the published details of the Top Rank specifics, it looks as if Top Rank has become senior to Arena Box, since the Top Rank agreement has to be observed irrespective of anything contained in the Arena agreement.Comment

It's a mistake to assume, if you're Floyd Mayweather Jr or one of those people around him, that Mayweather is winning the PR battle over TR/Arum therefore it's alright to do whatever you like and you have the public's sympathy. Oh yeah, fans hate Arum too, but make no mistake. The hate on Floyd is probably twice as much. You can see it in the mainstream media. Even if they're equally hated, man, that's not something you would want to carry around when you leave the sport. Why not just do the right thing like give fans the fight they want, apologize and make peace with the world? Mayweather can straighten things out if he really wanted to.
Can't wait to see this guy's name implicated. It's a ****** assumption that Gamboa winning this lawsuit is good for the sport. **** that assumption. It only produces undeserving divas. Look at the Floyd model. All fans had was retirement, vacation, retirement, vacation, duck fights, deny fans what they want to see.Comment
