Comments Thread For: Roy Jones: I'd Beat Mayweather, Pacquiao a Tough Style

I'm a big fan of RJJ. Grew up watching him fight, but I don't really believe him here due to bearing in mind that Roy is a huge Pac fan. I've never heard Roy praise Mayweather the way he does Pac. He respects Mayweather, and gives him credit for his skills. But Pac on the other hand he showers him with heaps of props. That's mainly down to Pac being an exciting fighter - doesn't make it the tougher fight though.

I remember in November 2011, Roy came out and said he doesn't want to see Pac -vs- Mayweather anymore. He rather see Mayweather take on a more challenging opponent like Khan. (I can show you proof). In December, he came out and said the mega fight will not happen because Bob Arum is not willing to risk losing his cash cow. All these factors combined tell me as well all already know, that he feels Mayweather will beat Pac. In 09' he said Pac should stay away from Mayweather and Mosley because they're too big and fast. Ok, so just by added up those comments, it's clear as day, he sees Mayweather as a a P4P better fighter than Pac.

There's a clear as day bias. He knows May's the better fighter, would also be tougher. Comparing him to Toney is silly, especially coming from RJJ. That's actually a cheap dig imo.

He also has said in the past that Pac will have a tough fight with Cotto. Also, predicted that Pac will have a tough fight with Bradley. Does he mean to say that he's on the same level as Cotto and Bradley?

At the end of the day, P4P RJJ beats both. But with these recent comments there's a clear bias to make Pac look better than he actually is.

Yep agreed. A lot of black boxers are very critical of Floyd. Just off the top of my head I can count: Hopkins, Toney, Foreman, Hagler, SRL and of course RJJ.

Yeah but that could be financial and professional jealousy to some degree. But floyd can be a real obnoxious ******* so I completely understand.

Now that I remember, SRL doesn't have any beef with Floyd. He predicts Floyd beats Pac. And SRL has said that in his prime he beats both. Which is something more realistic to say than "I beat Floyd but not Pac".

Exactly. Hopkins and Toney are the most defensive fighters he fought, and they were able to last 12 full rounds. Mayweather is beter defensively and offensively than both. If the only fighters that a prime RJJ went full rounds were with defensively-adept and counter punchers, what does that tell you about the chances of a defensively-less, slugger like Pac? RJJ is clearly trolling.

But really How would Roy land on Mayweather? He had a tough time landing on Hopkins and Toney with clean shots consistently to be honest. Roy has no jab although he has power in both hands. I think the fight with Mayweather would be closer than he states IF they were naturally the same size BUT with the same fighting STYLE.

the question is how would mayweather land on jones? roy was much more elusive than floyd throughout his prime
roy also would be the hardest puncher floyd would have faced, aswell as fastest and probabley only below marquez in terms of ring iq

no one that went the distance with roy lacked an iron mandible(that i can think of)

Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but I remember Toney dissing Floyd.

Toney stood up for Floyd once, and that was when he said he woulda done the same thing to Ortiz. Other than that, I remember Toney not having kind words for Floyd.

Can you name these "many" black ATG boxers who like Floyd? Name at least 5.
