Just take a look at Floyd's and Roy's body of work. After beating a weight drained Toney in 1994, Roy spent nearly 10 years fighting drunks, tomato cans, cabdrivers and over the hill no-hopers . I challenge anyone to name just one hall of famer since Toney, Roy has fought and beat. And when he finally decided to step up, Antonio beat his ass in the first fight then Knocked him out in the rematch.

The truth is that Roy spent the prime of his career not challenging himself. You can say what you want but the facts will always remain the same.
    I don't agree.....

But I'd like to know who Roy should have fought in his prime.

He could've given Toney and Hopkins a rematch but he didn't.

Do you realize Toney and Jones were fighting in two different weight classes after that?

You also realize that Jones and Hopkins couldn't come to an agreement on the financial split until Jones lost not only fights, but his superman aura.

It had nothing to do with ducking.

If Jones was ducking anyone, he would've retired a long time ago, not continue to fight well past his prime.

my original account, of why there were no rematches, involving jones vs. toney, and hopkins, while all were in their prime was, there was no need, or enough fan interest, for jones to rematch either...jones vs. hopkins 1 was not a barnburner in the ring, and jones pimpslapped hopkins, good enough...jones vs. toney, was a much hyped fight, that turned about to be so bad of a lopsided affair, and toney went from top p4p guy, to long term obscurity, in a matter of months...

iniduoh, i think roy jones jr., is being very truthful, in saying that in his younger years, he would have prepared for a fight with fmj, much the way he prepared for a fight with james toney in 1994, when toney was the #1 p4p fighter, undefeated, and undisputed in the 168 lb. division, and had no equal...even though james toney, stunk up the joint, in the fight, has nothing to do, with how jones would approach a fight, with toney...to which i believe is the original question to roy jones jr.

james toney, for those who actually watched his rise in the 90's, was a very good fighter in the 160 lb. division, but was an absolute beast at 168, when he stated, that he was cutting too much weight to make 160, and 168 was where he needed to be...he then went out, and absolutely destroyed iran barkley @ 168, to make that claim stick...i believe, what roy jones is saying without saying it, is that fmj, and james toney, have that same old school style, that he has been in the ring with plenty of times, and being that both james toney, and fmj are from michigan, and probably worked in the same gyms and learned things from some of the same people, that prime james toney, and fmj share basic fundamental traits, especially since they are from the same area, my man...lol

In just about every fight he's had his opponents punch output goes down. Its not luck. No one will throw 100 punches a round against him because its too dangerous for them to tire in the late rounds.

              • Prime RJJ was just a beast. I can easily visualize him beating Mayweather or Pacquiao.
