non of the fighters are scared. this is a business. good for gamboa that he's not putting up with arums bull****.to add a $100.000 bonus at the last minute when it shouldve already been apart of both fighters purses is a disgrace and slap in the face.arum has been stealing from pacquiao on down.

agree,it's easier to just blame it on the financial situation than to flat out admit he's having second thoughts, rios is tough, relentless, non stop punches and gamboa would never have ko'd him much less hurt him, acosta to me landed some bombs and is a big, strong fighter and rios was able to take those punches, gamboa is fast but hittable and has been down too, rios isn't that slow either so i think he probably thought no way and it's better to stay undefeated making less money but more fights ahead being undefeated

He appears to have been letting Oner, who he had put full trust in, take care of these matters. I can only imagine that he considered him a friend, at least in the business sense.

Unfortunetly Oner seems to has taken advantage of that and tied him into a contract that he knew very little about. Gamboa then went and got a lawyer of his own away from Oner and that lawyer has explained to him what Oner has done.

Rios is not someone Gamboa is worried about fighting, hence him wanting this fight, he's just being hosed. Hopefully they can reach some sort of compromise and get the fight back on, even at a later date.

You just don't agree to something and then as the date draws nearer you decide to disagree. That just isn't supposed to happen.
This has been brought up in other threads, but I'll repeat it here. One real possibility is that Gamboa agreed to certain terms in principle. When the finished product was presented to Yuri, there was something in the contract he hadn't agreed to. It happens. Top Rank are no angels, but I think only Ahmet Oner is grimy and ham-fisted enough to have attempted such a move.

As for cowardice, that, too, has been discussed many times. My belief is that top-level guys like Gamboa, Rios, etc. don't fear each other. Certainly not enough to avoid fighting. And certainly not enough to commit career suicide....

Yeah I'm aware of this speculation and I've read thru your threads. I was a Gamboa fan too, and I feel bad that he pretty much did just commit career suicide as you said, because that pretty much is what he did. You know what, I would even go as far as to say that even if Gamboa does end up fighting Rios anyway, and WINS, this mess would still linger around him and bite him on the ass forever.

Apparently, that's what happened. Gamboa should've gotten his own lawyer from the start. It appears he just didn't know any better.

So this is all you're gonna do, be upset? How about put your foot down and show these fighters it isn't about them, it's about the fans and the health of the sport. Instead you see Gamboa down the line on your network, smh. Ban this guy from the network and move on. Talent come, talent goes. It isn't like this guy is going to be a superstar(he's old) and he has no fanbase. Honestly, he isn't even worth the time and money to invest in. HBO show some balls.

i bet that "someone" is one of the mayweathers...having had hung out at the mayweather gym and most likely was asked about his financial terms in the rios fight...from there, it went all downhill. gamboa is now acting like a mayweather, hahaha
