As soon as he threw the first 4-piece, Kelly's eye started to spurt blood and every other time that Martinez threw that combination, he hit Pavlik with the last two punches.

Funny that Pavlik outweighed Martinez by 11 pounds on fight night and had like a 4 inch height advantage. Pavlik got busted up...

Pavlik was dehydrated, drained, and abusing substances-- and he still almost beat Sergio.

And that's one of Sergio best wins! LOL.
Kind of like how Vanda almost beat Chavez "El Puto" Jr.

he looked fine in that fight
Sergio was winning early, Pavlik rallied in the mid rds
then Sergio came back and Pavlik had no answers
Sergio outboxed him and beat him to a pulp
Pavlik just plain lost to a better guy, now coming with excuses
if they rematched now Sergio would beat him, even at SMW

It's not a coincidence that the fight turned when he cut Pavlik.

And Pavlik always has had that overdrive while Martinez hasn't always had that overdrive.
Respectfully disagree. Martinez has always seemed to have great stamina from what I remember...and there's a difference from what seems like resting/hanging back and being gassed. Martinez looked like he was just hanging back with no purpose, either waiting or resting but he wasn't being hurt or hit with the kitchen sink. He was being caught every now and then with a jab as he came in and would just hover back and be passive. But then..if I recall correctly (it's been some time) he came out throwing combinations in that round and Kelly wasn't able to do anything about them...hence how he got cut, then cut again I think a round or so later? I think Martinez might have been the one who was waiting on Kelly to tire.

I don't think Kelly ever had that over drive also. We'd have seen it. As soon As Martinez decided it was go time, he started throwing a lot more, Pavlik couldn't cope. The cuts definitely didn't help, but he only got cut because he was being hit. Pavlik is a cutter and against a fast guy who seems to have that snap that busts people up (similar like Pac), it becomes a factor.

He was hanging in there alright until the cut. Then Maravilla beat the screws off him those last few rounds.

Dehydrated and drunk, Pavlik still almost beat Sergio.

A non-drunk Pavlik would make easy work for Sergio.
