You weren't drained. You just couldn't handle that cold 4 piece that Martinez stuck in your face the 2nd half of the fight. That was the coldest 4 piece I've ever seen.
I don't see how people can question that a Taylor type Pavlik beats Martinez. If he can get back to that people at 168 should watch out. Pavlik was completely taking over the fight even in his ****ty shape and life problems. The cuts stopped that.
Yeah I think that Pavlik could beat Martinez. It was a close fight, as I recall and the cut definitely changed the momentum of the fight.
I don't like the excuses though. Especially since he never said anything about it until now. Even if it is true, it's just not something we like to hear. I hope he can get back into the sport seriously again. I always enjoy watching him. Definitely one of my favorite fighters, in spite of everything he's gone through in the past couple years.
I remember thinking Miranda was going to destroy him and he pounded the piss out of poor Eddison. Then the way he came back from the Taylor fight and KO'd him was so amazing! I was literally screaming at the TV when I saw that.
Sergio beats him EVERYTIME imo....funny thing is how HBO tried to make it seem like Kelly was in the fight befoe Sergio opened him up..smh....I remember Steward saying Kelly was OUTBOXING Sergio at one point....oh man LOL
It's been a while since I've seen the fight but he was definitely in the fight up until the cut, man. It wasn't one sided as I recall.
I like Pavlik but come on... at least win some fights, make some noise and then call out Martinez for a rematch. Right now, nobody would buy the fight and Martinez is looking for the money fights..
i like pavlik but man up for once. its ok to have an excuse but still, give props where it's due. martinez beat you fair and square and i'm not even a huge fan of sergio.
It was actually pretty one sided the first half, then Kelly had like..3 good rounds or so..but it's not like they were convincingly dominant rounds or anything. Then it got out of hand the last few rounds. Sergio didn't demolish him, but by one sided I mean that he clearly beat him. It wasn't that close. :|... Kelly did better when Martinez stopped fighting, which was for like 2 or 3 rounds and he actually had a nice little jab he was trying to establish..then Martinez just woke back up and put in work. Kelly doesn't beat anybody on the elite level IMO, but he had his little run. I like him, but nothing I saw from that fight led me to believe it was his weight...it was more like his lack of athletic ability/speed and limited boxing skill. :|... JCC Jr would beat Pavlik. <__<
He wasn't completely drained, and even if he was he would've out weighted Martinez by 15+ pounds on fight night since Martinez was just having his second fight at MW after his "defeat" against Williams.
Pavlik was outboxed, he wasn't able to land his power shots on Martinez and it had absolutely nothing to do with the weight. Martinez was the better boxer, period.
Come on now...does anyone really doubt that Pavlik had weight struggles for that fight? I know we hate to hear excuses but there are times that excuses are legit.
The weight definitely effected him. And it was a close fight up to the cut. I remember over the middle rounds thinking to myself "wow, Pavlik's gonna stop him". He did a horrible job fighting with the cut(and the corner did a horrible job on the cut).
A healthy Pavlik against Martinez is a toss up fight.
<__<..No offense but how was Martinez ever in any danger of being stopped? He took Pavlik's shots like a champ and didn't even flinch (Granted..Pavlik only landed a few the entire fight..) and only fell from a pushing jab when he was off balance. :|... Martinez basically stopped fighting when Pavlik came "alive" and then as soon as he started fighting again, he tooled Pavlik. Cuts or not, Martinez was already commiting himself to blasting at pavlik with combinations shortly before the cut..then the other cut. Pavlik got cut because he was being hit too cleanly. Pavlik had a moment in the fight where it looked like this would end up close..but squandered that as soon as Martinez went into over drive. Pavlik doesn't have that extra gear..weight or not.
