IMO this is a bully move, Win-Win for Top Rank. If Gamboa loses his patience and he signs to fight Rios, Top Rank wins. If Gamboa doesnt sign, TR may make less money on the Rios card, may have to shell out some $$ for litigation but now TR gets to tout Rios as the guy Gamboa is scared of making him an even hotter ticket seller. This event and Bam Bam Rios is getting much more free press now that there's some controversy.

You should also have a problem with a fighter who causes his promoter to believe that he is agreed to the fight, and to proceed with spending much money on conferences and other bookings....then, suddenly lets everyone down and leaves them in a mess.....

What does that say about Top Rank if their fighters want to jump ship?

Talent wise, he is a superstar. There are very few guy's in the sport who have Gamboa's level of talent. We're talking about a guy who has rolled the vast majority of his opponents, picked up world titles, won a gold medal...those things are more important than numbers.

If you are a floyd, manny, ODH, cotto you should leave TR when you are at your financial peak. If you are Gamboa, it probably makes more financial sense to stay, particulalrly when you don't speak english so well.

Gamboa may not have a big following but the man is a star and one of the most talented fighters out now. There should be some kind of big bidding for him.

He is right, if he doesn't stick up for himself now, then he will always be taken advantage of.

Rios can fight someone his own size, its not like theres a shortage of guys calling him out either. He has options @ 135 and 140.
i want to see this fight more than anybody but, from reading this article i can understand gamboa's position and it sounds like that's exactly what happened. it's bad business is what it is. it seems like the posters with the knee jerk reactions are either on rios' nuts or *******s who believe this guy is guilty by association.

It appears Gamboa is being drawn into the rather sad battle between Pacquiao and Mayweather fans which is unfortunate.

I really don't get it, people invest in those guy's way too much.
