So did Lennox Lewis, but it was the pre-fight boasting and lack of respect that Larry was taking him to task on.

If you're a fan of the fighter in question you're not going to like it, but Larry asks questions the neutrals (i.e. the majority) want to hear.

I think it's primarily the lead commentator's place to call the fight (usually Lampley) and for the other co-commentators to offer subjective opinions. That's how it works in most sports anyway.

I don't agree with Merchant all that much but I do think he is a good post-fight interviewer.

Merchant has had a hard on for Floyd since the late 90's/early 00's. Just go back and watch the interviews. What happened after Mayweather-Ortiz was a long time coming....

So if it wasn't an interview than how did Merchant "cast the first stone"?

I don't particularly like the guy but he's not scared to bring the questions to fighters if they've fought dirty or not measured up to their pre-fight boasts. He acts as a good intermediary between the general public and the boxers themselves.

And why? because many of them have been boring, that's just the reality.

Merchant's not saying anything the vast majority of boxing fans haven't said about FMJ's major bouts. Mayweather just didn't like someone telling him how it was instead of kissing his a$$ like those leeching yes-men who hang around him do.

Then whenever Merchant actually praises Mayweather, he doesn't even listen and blows up on him.
You are very right. It was Merchant who drew my attention to Mayweather in the beginning. Until then I never bothered watching him. One night, during a fight, Merchant said "I don't know any other good fighter who can stink up the place the way Mayweather does, with people walking out of a quarter filled arena" etc. and then the camera watched Michael Jordan and another celebrity walking out during a round, and a few others too.

From then on, I always remembered his name, and yes, true enough his fights were genuine sleeping pills. And then he took disgusting advantage of the desperate Corrales. Because of that sham of a fight, I've decided that I don't care for Mayweather.

no its the other commentators job to explain what exactly is going on, to color it is in other words which means to explaing what the fighter is doing and why hes doing it and what it means. its not the other commentator's job to continuoulsy tell us how boring said fighter is. i mean honestly if this was any other sport, merchant wouldnt even have a job. he gets paid to watch these fights and commentate on them, but we must hear his opinion on why the fight is boring? no thank u.

I like Mayweather-Alvarez, probably the only one. I think new england likes it too and _Original_. We're the only posters I can think of who likes the fight. But we won't be the only fans who'd buy that PPV
What about "Mayweather made other compelling ......" instead of 'Merchant made....". You'd think that Marley would at least proof-read his own work........eh?

We deserve a decent interview after the Floyd fight... I find Merchant super annoying. I find Kellerman almost as annoying with his dramatic pauses in between every word like he's having some profound moment, when really he's just talking slowly for American audiences. Just get a semi-articulate ex-boxer in there like Lewis or Tarver or RJJ, it would be a much better experience.
