This was an entertaining fight. But to think that this fight was actually for a heavyweight belt is rather sad. It looked more like a fight that should have been for the Montana State Heavyweight title and tucked away on some obscure cable channel back in 1988. I will also state that this is not the same Povetkin who I watched beat Eddie Chambers back in 2008 and I think we can all thank Atlas for that.

If Chambers could punch a little more, or had been in better shape there, that would have looked a lot like this. Chambers started strong there and then gassed. Povetkin looks mostly like he always has. This was an entertaining fight. But to think that this fight was actually for a heavyweight belt is rather sad. I remember Povetkin easily winning the Chambers fight. And in this fight he was sucking wind by the 4th round. And at times he was getting hit by punches that you can see Huck loading up on for a week before he threw them. Good fight but sad to think that these guys are actually world class fighters.Comment

Yes I do, once again why I'm disappointed in Sasha. He clearly was the more skilled fighter, but he didn't look it tonight. He should be ashamed that Denis Lebedev did better against Huck, who was smaller and much shorter.
Anton LaVey, however, that's just stubbornness if you won't admit Huck looked ready to go in the 11th he was badly hurt and bloody and the bell saved him. And I remember you lobbying for Huck before the fight even started...are you just mad you didn't get it right?Comment

Come on, man, quit being a wet blanket. I think you're viewing the past through rose-colored glasses. This was an entertaining fight. That was an exciting heavyweight fight, we boxing fans should be happy. That's two interesting and engaging HW fights in a row.Comment

They're really not. Povetkin in the 90s would be battling in the dregs with guys like Botha.I remember Povetkin easily winning the Chambers fight. And in this fight he was sucking wind by the 4th round. And at times he was getting hit by punches that you can see Huck loading up on for a week before he threw them. Meaning, if he got with King, he still might have snared a belt for a cup of coffee. Povetkin would struggle with Bruce Seldon.
Chmabers was better, early, than I think you recall. Chambers got off to a good start there and was teeing off in some early rounds. At almost 220, he had nothing after about four and went into cover. Chambers could never keep his hands moving with that much weight. Povetkin gave a nice, workmanlike effort there but Chambers didn't have much resistance to offer. He really hasn't improved much at all. Huck got off because he's quicker and Povetkin's reflexes weren't up to it.Comment

I agree with everything you said here.Exhilarating fight.
Though I have to say I honestly hate Marco Huck
He fights like a brute. I personally see little quality to his style whatsoever and he lunges at you at every clinch
Povetkin took some big shots and got fatigued but I would still give the fight to him.
Huck's eye was trickling blood at the end. Povetkin looked like a model.
Both fighters have two incredible chins though ! ! ! !Comment

I feel I did get it right. Huck got marked up but he wasn't "ready to go." Huck is a tough hombre. It was Povetkin who was barely hanging on more than once.Yes I do, once again why I'm disappointed in Sasha. He clearly was the more skilled fighter, but he didn't look it tonight. He should be ashamed that Denis Lebedev did better against Huck, who was smaller and much shorter.

But considering MANY people here were telling me Huck would get blown out, I guess I am vindicated anyway, no matter the judges' scores. And only two of them thought Povetkin won. And none of the people on the EPIX broadcast thought Povetkin won.Comment

Both can be true.
Measured against the 90s, arguably the second best decade Heavyweight ever saw, is a rough measure. I think the talent level is sub-80s right now though too. Those guys underachieved. This is as good as most of these cats get. The Klits are a big exception.
That said, this was a fun fight. As was the case last week, dominance or parity below is fine. Entertain me and all is well.
Keep Pabon off my screen and that's better.Comment
