And training too long and too hard.

Which boxer has a 12 week training camp, especially a boxer so light at the weight.

And now Cotto is saying he is going to train hard as ever. spells trouble and Cotto will be in his best condition about 2 weeks before and is very likely to pick up little niggles and injuries.

Do you think Mayweather is in camp now?

Is Pacquiao going for a 12 week camp? No they will do 8 weeks.

Cotto needs someone professional on board because this could all blow up in his face.

The same thing was said when cotto fought judah, the same thing was said when cotto fought mosley. After every fight, his opponents say 'damn, hes faster than he looks', 'he's deceptively fast', etc. Yes, he is not as fast as mayweather, but he is fast enough, mayweather will get touched (as he does in every fight, except the marquez fight).

The rest comes down to gameplanning, conditioning, and mental attitude. I like him training early, in the sense of gameplanning all the scenarios early, but i dont want to see him get too in shape too soon. I have a feeling both diaz and cotto know/realize this tho.
What's your point? They ALL LOST.

Bro I'm just pointing out that the term "overtrain" is a BROsciene term. There is no such thing because overtrain would mean that you are training past a point where your no longer able to exercise. So if an athlete normally trains for 8 hours a day (which is a lot) and decides to train for another 2 means he will need more rest and better nutrition plus sup's. If he does not properly balance out his training routine it means that he trained INNEFECTIVELY not overtrained. There's no such thing.

They were all fast enough to touch mayweather, cotto is faster than all of them. Follow that to its logical conclusion. Mayweather is gonna get touched.

Gameplanning will be more of a factor than lack of speed on cottos part. But ofcourse, mayweather da gawd walks everybody down and knocks everybody out.

OK you call it "training ineffectually and everyone else in the world calls it over training.

And what do you think most top boxers only have a 6-8 week training camp, because they can't be bothered to put in that extra month or because it is the best for them?

I think you are taking what Miguel is doing right now as a full on camp. Which is more than likely wrong. They were saying that Cotto has just been staying in the gym, hitting the mitts and running, nothing beyond what Floyd does all year. He does stay in shape doesn't he? How? He must be running, doing something in the gym. What I think PLD is providing game-plan instruction, getting Cotto's subconscious used the strategies that he will be using. Fighting a man the caliber of Mayweather requires this very act. All others who have had normal training sessions have lost so far. And as I said before, PLD is hungry and would love to be the first trainer to guide a fighter into beating Floyd. Floyd has had his time. This is PLD and Cotto's time.

The answer to your question is simple. They train 6 to 8 weeks because it is the time frame they need in order to be prepared for a fight. You cannot hold everyone to the same standard. It would be like me telling a noob at the gym that he should be able to cut down to 7% body fat within 4 weeks because that's what I do. Everyone is different including boxers.
