Cotto had beat Clottey, and if you don't think he won then Clottey was coming off a win and you can't say he was coming off a loss then.
There are also a lot of people who thought Morales won the second Barrera fight, so it's not like he looked terrible going into the first Pacquiao fight either.
You are right about Hatton and Cotto though. It shoudl be mentioned that Hatton was coming off a loss to Floyd, as well as good wins against Malignaggi and Lazcano. Still, Hatton was past his prime-still good. I don't think anyone considered Hatton prime going into the Manny fight. Still good, not prime.
Cotto was past his prime-still good as well, pretty much the same as he is now. After the Margarito loss, he beat Jennings to win his title (i mean, really?) and than fought a tough fight with Clottey.
Cotto and Hatton were the last fights that Pac fought a legit fight, both good wins in my book. That's why if there's not May-Pac, I hope it's Mayweather-Cotto at 154 and Pacquiao-Bradley. That'd be fine with me.

Since then though, ugh. As bad a run as a fighter in his position could possibly have.

Manny didn't want to find out...Shane called him out in his OWN GYM..
If Margarito called Floyd out in his own gym ya'll would never let it go..!
When Shane was Champ PAC DUCKED HIM...Freddy said "Shane...you're just too good"...
You tell me..
Who was better at WW than Shane at the time Floyd fought him???
